My first impression of Dr. Long a very good one. The first time I met him was at the information seminar and I liked him right away. He seems to really care about his patients and only wants the best outcome for all. After my one on one visit with him, my impression is the same. He really seems to care. The office staff was very helpful and friendly. Melissa (Nurse) and Jimmie Beard (nurse practitioner) are amazing. (Will update more once I have the surgery)
My first impression of Dr long was that he was a good dr. He was good for the surgery but didnt want to deal with someone with as many problems as i had. Told my family at a time when my potassium was critically low and messing with my heart that he would \"BABYSIT\" me in the hospital. I went to a different ER to stay away from his was admitted and given IV potassium for 5 days. DO NOT CARE FOR HIM AT ALL>>> however, I love love love the Nurse Practioner Jimmi- she is wonderful. She has the nicest personality and is very caring-she is continuing my care.
Dr. Long was much more humorous than I expected and I like that. My time with him has been limited but his staff has been great ! I think if I'd needed to see him personally, that would have been arranged but luckily, I've had no complications to report. My surgery went great and he was very resposive to my family's questions and concerns.rnThe aftercare program is very structured and I am expected to keep up with my appointments. Dr. Long expects me to attend support meetings now that surgery has been done and I started well before my surgery. rnI'd rate him as a very competent sugeon with good bedside manner albeit limited. That's what I personally would expect from a surgeon but others may expect more time with him.
I have to say that when I met Dr. Bruce Long for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised. He had great personality and was very informative especially with all my questions. His office staff was just as accomodating as he was. He has a very detailed after care program and he explains all the risks about the surgery to you in detail. I would rate him overall as a 10! Wonderful surgeon with wonderful competence and bedside manner...I think I made a great choice.rnrnrnOne side note, I had a small complication after my surgery and Dr. Long was out of town for the day. The residents at the hospital consulted one of the other GBS surgeons on staff at the hospital. His name was Dr. Lucktong. He was very compassionate and caring especially during my situation. He helped make a decision of whether to go back in to see what the problem was or to let it wait it out. I am glad he chose to let me wait it out and see if the issue cleared up on its own. It did, 12 hours to the minute later. I was spared having to stay in the hospital longer than I already had. I appreciated his knowledge and his expertise as well as his compassion for me even though I was not his patient. He could have chosen not to see me but he didn't. Not many surgeons will do such things.
I was very scared when I went to visit with Dr. Long. Wasn't really sure if I was going to go thru with this or not. I contacted the office in May to see excately what I needed for the surg. Many changes had been made to the office staf and some employees were new, and some really overworked. My first impression what a rude office. During the last 8 monthsI really like this office stay espically JB(surg scheduler) & Jimmi(NP). These two are the best...I meet with Dr. Long in August and started the long process for Inusrance approval (6 months supervised weightloss for Aetna Inusrance). The first impression is wow he is young, and short.(My thought:is how does he work on pt in the OR-to my suprise he stands on a stool how awesom) We discussed my medical history and why I wanted to have this done. Dr. Long is very informative and I really liked him alot he went over the procedurea and the Pro & Con of this.rnThroughtout the whole meeting he emphaised how important that excerice is, this surg is not the answer it is only a tool. I would highly recommend Dr. Long. Bedside Manner & Comptence is great, but I'm hoping so is Dr. Long 04/21/2008 will tell the story...
First impression - he's a little quiet. He did surgery on my dad and my mother loved him and I have a family friend who is an RN at the hospital, he's quite firm that Dr. Long would be his go-to-guy if he needed any surgery. rnrnHis office staff was very nice. My initial conversation with one of the receptionists wasn't great, but I haven't dealt with her since, so maybe she was covering for someone else. rnrnI am surprised that I didn't have to do more before being approved.
He's been wonderful all along. His nurse Sue is the sweetest person. He's been very helpful and supportive, but doesn't mind saying what needs to be said. He is part of a Bariatric Center for Excellence. I had a lot of medical/health problems and I really didn't think anyone would do the surgery. He explained all of the risks and complications. Both competence and manner are great!
I'd like to Thank Dr. Bruce Long!! He is a wonderful surgeon. I felt so well taken care of by him and his staff from the office ladies to the nurses. Everyone was great. I also loved my nurses in the hospital....ALL of them were great as well! I highly reccomend them for anyone in the area looking for a great team of professionals for bariatric care. They really are the best. rn
