After months of research my daughter and I decided with full confidence in Dr. Guillermo Alvarez. Our journey began on March 31, 2013, we headed out to Eagle Pass,TX. My husband drove us there, we checked in the hotel, which was very nice. The next morning April 1,2013, Rosie (Dr.A's driver, who by the way is very sweet) picked us up and drove us to Piedras Negras, MX. The minute we met with Dr. Alvarez we felt soo at ease and very comfortable, we didn't felt scared at all. He is truly very professional, caring and wonderful person, not to mention the BEST SURGEON ever. Jessica and Jesus our personal nurses were awesome, very caring and wonderful people. Jessica walked the halls with us and Jesus took my Husband out to eat, my husband really enjoyed his company. Our experience there at the hospital was SUPERB, the heartfelt friendliness, concern, care and attentiveness from Dr. Alvarez, Dr. Rosales and all his staff and hospital staff were plentiful. On our way back home what stuck with me most was when right after surgery Dr.A, Dr.R and the Anesthesiologist were there by my bed side making sure I was doing fine, talking to me and visited us many times through out our stay there. Best decision My daughter and I made, would recommend him in a heart beat, it is very safe to travel to Piedras Negras, MX. So when people ask me with who I had surgery,
with lots of PRIDE I say Dr. Guillermo Alvarez.

My experience with Dr. Alvarez and his staff surpassed my expectations and hopes for WLS. I am currently a little over 4 weeks out of my surgery and have lost a total of 33 lbs since the ten day pre-op diet. The best news is that I am down to one blood pressure pill a day, as opposed to 4! My blood pressure readings are perfect! I am sure I will be off them soon! Before this surgery my body was almost unresponsive to my blood pressure medication. I am thrilled with the results so far and receive compliments everyday on my progress already! I can't wait to see where this journey takes me. If you are hesitant to go to Mexico to have surgery with Dr. Alvarez, rest assured that he and his staff will go above and beyond your expectations with quality care! You couldn't find a surgeon more qualified in the United States!

Dr. Alvarez was absolutely the best I could ask for. He was very attentive, and checked in on me more than once per day. His staff was also wonderful! They took excellent care of me and my family member that came with me. He was very informative, and continues to keep in touch with you even after surgery. I would chose Dr. Alvarez over any other surgeon, he was wonderful!

De.Alvarez is fantastic. The care I received was fantastic. Everyone was very attentive. The facilities were very clean. We don't speak Spanish-so was kind of worried about the language barrier, but there was always someone around that spoke English. Everything was on a schedule and it all ran perfect. Great places near to pick up any items you might need. OVerall my entire experience was very positive. Would recommend Dr. Alvarez to anyone considering bariatric surgery!!!

Having Gastric Sleeve done with Dr. Alvarez was the best descission I could have made for My Obisity problem. A lot of Poeple asked me if I was scared to cross the border into Mexico and if I trusted the hospital. No I was not scared I had been to Piedras Negras Mexico plenty of times with My Mother and It didnt phase me one bit, As a matter of fact I was very pleased with the Medical Staff and the Hospital. I think I got better treatment there then I have had in the USA. Dr. Alvarez and His Staff are Awesome.

My journey started off as most, with tons and tons of research online :). After weeks of research, I decided with full confidence in Dr. Alvarez. In February of 2013, my husband and I made our way south to have my surgery. Rosie, Dr. A's cousin, helped transport us Eagle Pass. I don't have the words to properly describe how friendly Rosie is. Honestly, after 15 minutes, I felt like we had known her for years! Surgery morning, Rosie picked us up from our hotel, and transported us over the border into Mexico. No muss, no fuss. After arriving at the hospital, we meet Dr. A. He's pleasant, friendly, and makes me feel so comfortable (which is helpful, because I'm a ball of worry ;)). I'm weighed, and shipped to a temporary room, as the last patients are getting ready to leave.
If I had anything to change, it would be now...I chose to go last, and that was awful. I would have much rather gone first, and had it done and over with, instead of sitting around doubting my decision. They came in, and moved to my permanent room, which was the big room, so my husband actually got a bed also, even though he wasn't having the surgery. The room was wonderful, with a nice bathroom, a desktop computer, and enough space to walk in my room, if I didn't want to walk the halls. There were to be no other patients coming in for a couple days after surgery, so the whole hospital was fairly quiet. This is a community hospital though, so there were other local patients.
I was set up with an IV, told they were giving me something to relax, and that's all she wrote. I woke up in my hotel room long enough to tell my husband I was tired, and fall back asleep. I slept on and off most that first day, but this is my reaction to most anesthesia. That evening I was able to get up and walk around. I was checked on by Dr. A, Dr. Rosales and the nurses almost on the hour that whole first day and night. Then you have Jessica, and Jesus, your personal nurses, I cannot tell you how sweet both of these people are. Jesus tended to me and my husband mostly, not so much me, as I slept, but my husband. He took him out to eat, to shop for our boys, and to get anything he might need from a convenience store. My husband had a lot of reservations about traveling to Mexico to have my surgery, but after this experience, his opinions have changed, and he has even started discussing taking a trip to Playa del Carmen, per Rosie's opinion of the town :).
The overall care, kindness, concern, and heartfelt friendliness is plentiful here. I'm so very pleased with my choice to make Dr. Alvarez my surgeon, he is by far the best, as well as his wonderful staff.

When I first started thinking about VSG I was skeptical but I knew after failing at every other diet under the sun and because my health was getting worse I had to do something! A friend of mine had the surgery in California (which is where I live) and he did great. As I watched him lose all this weight and get healthy I knew this is what I wanted to do. With my health care provider it can take up to a year to get approved for a surgery like this and I just didn't want to wait that long so I started researching. That is when I found Dr. Alvarez! Of course I thought to myself - seriously surgery in Mexico - am I crazy? But after reading all the testimonials from his patients and then talking to Susan - his correspondence gal who had had the surgery with him as well - I felt more at ease. So I scheduled my surgery and went for it. I thought I would be more nervous than I was but Dr. A's staff is the best you can get! They make you feel so comfortable and at ease and I was never scared or felt like I made the wrong decision. Dr. Alvarez is a genuine, caring and wonderful person - not to mention the best surgeon EVER! You feel comfortable from the first minute you meet him and I have never felt this way about any other doctor I have ever met in the states. I would not have received the same kind of care as I did with Dr. A and his staff if I had this surgery at home. I'm sure it would have been fine - my friend did it. But in comparing our notes on each of our surgeries and the care he got compared to mine - his probably a B - mine A plus all the way!!! I have absolutely no regrets - best money ever spent - and at six weeks post-op I am down 40 lbs and no more high blood pressure and feeling the best I have felt in a long time. So if you are thinking about this surgery don't look anywhere else - Dr. Alvarez is your man! I can't thank him enough for probably saving my life! He still checks in with me to see how I'm doing. How many surgeons care like that to check in with their patients weeks after surgery? Dr. Alvarez deserves more than 5 stars - 100 stars plus!

Hi! Just wanted to give you some advice if you are researching and wanting to have the Gastric Sleeve procedure. I had my procedure on March 9, 2013. It has been 3 weeks and I have already lost 40 pounds! I feel great!!
I would highly recommend Dr.Alvarez to anyone seeking to have the procedure. My experience with Dr.Alvarez and his staff has been, by far, the best medical experience I have had.
Dr.Alvarez gives you all the information that you need and answers any questions that you may have. I was fully informed of the procedure and what the expect, before I had it done.
Being that Dr.Alvarez is in Mexico, some people are scared or skeptical about it. It is completely safe. The hotel stay in Eagle Pass is safe as well. Crossing back and forth to Mexico was easy and pleasant. Dr.Alvarez has a charter van, his personal driver, pick you up and take you back to Eagle Pass when you are discharged. The medical staff in Mexico are the sweetest and caring people.
After the procedure, Dr.Alvarez will personally send you emails and stays in touch, so you are able to ask him questions or address any concerns you have. I appreciate having a doctor that I can personally communicate with!!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR.ALVAREZ TO ANYONE SEEKING TO HAVE WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY!!
Good Luck and I wish you the best!!!
