My first impresstion is based on the informational meeting. I was very impressed, and while he explained everything I felt very comfortable with him.
I'll let you know more after I meet him one on one on Wed. 1/19.
1/20- I had my appointment yesterday. It went good I thought. I do have to agree with some people on Joyce. She seems like she has her routine down pat, and if you ask alot of questions, or interupt, she has to think of where she was in her script. Very "practiced" in her speech.
Dr. Rupp I really liked. We asked each other questions and when he answered mine, he looked me in the eye. I asked if his BMI was the same as mine, would he have the surgery, and without hesitation he said "In a heartbeat". It will help me with so many of my co-morbitiy (?) problems.
Right now there's only 2 complaints-Joyce who is very much into routine, and the fact that in the information meeting, nothing was said about paying your co-pay before surgery would even be scheduled. I talked to the staff about that, and the person I talked with said she mentioned to some of the other staff, and they all agreed that from now on it should be addressed in the info. meeting.
I should be called with a date within a couple of days, and I'm also on the cancellation list.

Dr. Rupp was my mothers doctor for years. My mother had diabetes and he worked very hard to keep her legs. In the end, diabetes won out. Dr. Rupp did her surgery's back then. He was so caring and gentle with her, I knew he was the ONLY one I would let do my surgery.
I do think they are taking on too many patient. With the extreme amount of waiting time, and the abruptness of the staff, along with not being able to reach a real person on the phone, you start to feel like a number instead of a patient.
Even with all of that, I still think Dr. Rupp is great. He knows what he's doing, he explains the risks, and emphasizes aftercare.

Dr. Rupp is....busy. He had a god complex and your time is of no meaning to him. I was not impressed with his manner and attitude. He did however do a good job on my surgery. .... I think I base this on the fact that I am not dead or in more pain than normal. I would recommend him, but also recommed looking at other doctors who are more into their patients as well.

I have a close friend that works at Dr Rupp's office so I was told from the beginning he is an excellent surgeon. He is a very busy guy and very knowledgable, but seems to lack in bedside manner. He is quick and straight to the point, not much of a person for chit chat. He states the facts and doesn't beat around the bush. The office staff also was slightly difficult to work with at times, but his nurse Joyce is very knowledgeable as well. Dr Rupp and his nurse Joyce seem a little "programmed". I get the feeling they tell the exact same things to every patient. However I would highly recommend both of them to anyone. They know a lot and have been doing thier jobs for over 20 years! They highly highly emphasize the aftercare program. This is where success is learned. Joyce heads a support group that meets once a month after surgery. Shortly after being home from hospital I received a packet of info. re: the aftercare program and how to stay involved and what is expected of me. Overall I would rate Dr Rupp and his office staff a 8.5 out of 10. If they were a little more personable and a little less busy they would have received my vote for a 10! Surgical competence far outweighs bedside manner.

Saw Dr. Rupp at the informational meeting. Very professional. Very knowledgable of what he's doing and has good reasoning for what he does. I feel very comfortable knowing he'll do my surgery.

Very knowledgable about the procedures.

My Impression did not change over time regardless of the wait (which I know everyone goes through).

Really hard to get a hold of (only because they are REALLY busy).

I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Rupp. My impression of him was that he is a highly qualified surgeon who knows exactly what he is doing.

As far as you future patients... Do your homework and be honest about your goals and how you have prepared.

Keep in mind that emphasis on aftercare in this program is that it is critical to success.

He addresses the risks of surgury more than once.

I would give him a 10 out of 10 so far...

Dr. Rupp is very busy, but was very nice. After meeting him, I felt very confident having him as my surgeon. Everyone in his office is professional and very easy to deal with. The nurses are very knowledgable and helpful.

i thought that he was very professional and thourough and he tells it like it is like it or not.
no,i went back to him.
the office staff is a huge part in getting you the help that you need and keeping it.
dr.rupp is very busy and sometimes it takes awhile to get in to see him.
dr.rupp chooses to do only two of the choices your given for gastric bypass,he believes these are the safest and have the highest success rate.the vbg and the rhueny.
your required to do aftercare plus there are things that need aftercare monitoring.your questions are answered there.
there are specific steps that must be followed to even be considered to be approved for this entire office group to agree that your a good candidate for them.that is part of the structure of the before and aftercare program.
you are given the naked truth about thr risks and the benefits and the possible complications about the surgeries and your lifestyle changes.
i would go back to dr rupp over and over even with the complications that ive had with the vertical banding.id do it all again
everything about st paul surgeons and their program is great.this is my personal feelings on dr rupp and his staff and my experience with them.it may be differant for others
