After 9 years of suffering through nausea, 6 years of agonizing pain, dying of G.I. bleed, and monthly transfusions; doctor Farrell, met with me once, saw the dire circumstances I was in and immediately scheduled my revision. When I woke up from surgery IMMEDIATELY afterward, I was in 80% less pain than I had been in years. He even found the cause of my pain which other doctors attributed to nerve pain but was really herniated intestines from where my first bypass surgeon hadn't sewn them down afterward. Because he found and fixed that I was not in pain from them anymore! From the minute I woke up from my first bypass I have not had an appetite, was constantly nauseous, and got six between 4 and 6 times day. After Dr. Farrell did my revision I have not gotten sick (it's been four weeks), I'm not nauseous and am currently in no pain from it. I am so blessed to have my life back after almost a decade. :-) I highly recommend him and his team.
Dr.Farrell has been the greatest from the first day I met him. He spent nearly an hour just talking and explaining everything to me, pros cons and choices of surgeries. His office staff has always been there to answer any question for me they return phone calls promptly. He does work out of a teaching hospital and the resident and intern were great with wonderful bedside manor. The hospital staff understood bariatric surgery and were delightful to work with. I felt more than well informed about the risks of WLS yet very satisfied that he would perform the surgery with the least risk possible. I would reccomend Dr.Farrell to any one considering WLS.
I met with Dr. Farrell on December 21, 2009. I really like him. He, like Dr. Bitar takes his time. He explained everything all over again, and we discussed many different options, that I had already considered. I feel confident that he and his team will be able to complete my surgery. I will be using the filter screen to catch any possible blood clots. Dr. Farrell's staff has been outstanding. Especially his nurse Karen Colton. She is wonderful and is always available to answer my questions. (and I have had quite a few :). We discussed after care, and follow-up... We taked about my support system and making sure everything was in place. Overall I really like Dr. Farrell, his team, and staff.
Dr Farrell is a very wise pyhsician. he thoroughly explained the procedure and made sure I had a good understanding of the procedure. Answered all of my questons without hesitation. He made me feel very comfortable prior to surgery and post-op. His Coordinator/Nurse of the bariatric program was awsome. She helped me navigate through the system. She has the inate ability to remember details about me. The aftercare was stressed to me and they were genuinely concerned as to who would be seeing me years post-op while being assured that I had arranged this with my PCP. The hospital bariatric floor staff were very nice to me and very competent. They provided quality care and I have since reccommended several co-workers and friends to seek their bariatric surgery through this group of doctors. The hospital OR staff however, almost neglected to prepare the OR suite for my anaphylactic allergy to latex prior to my surgery. Had I not been an ambulatory and awake patient prior to surgery to ask if they were aware of my latex allergy I feel I would not be alive today. The next time I have any OR procedure I will write my allergy across my forehead.
Cute, very nice guy.rnrnImpression hasn't changed, he's still very nice and great to work with.rnrnOffice staff is knowledgeable and quick to get you in.rnrnDidn't tell me how bruised I could be and how much pain I could be in. Was kind of flippant about me being black from belly button to my hip. Other members on the floor that had him as their surgeon did not have the complications I did. I apparently bled a lot during the surgery.rnrnGreat explainations of the whole procedure, complications, risks, etc.rnrnEmphasizes after care as extremely important. Can call coordinating nurse at any time or can call Bariatric resident surgeon at any time when office is closed.rnrnYes, aftercare program is well structured.rnrnAll Risks were explained Very clearly and asked if we understood each one.rnrnKnowledgeable, personable, experienced with this surgery.rnrnI felt both were great.
Dr. Timothy Farrell is an amazing surgeon. I found him most competent, yet a humble man. At UNC Chapel Hill, his reputation is impeccable. I found him to be kind and caring of his patients at a level I have never seen in a doctor, let alone a surgeon. His nurse, Karen Colton, has been a god send. She takes time out of her busy busy day to return all phone calls and take care of my needs, when needed. She has never failed me or faltered in any way. Karen is the backbone of the bariatric program at UNC Chapel Hill Memorial. rnrnDr. Farrell's partner, Dr. Overby, needs to be mentioned. His name is not on the list here, but it well should be. He has been with me from the start. I have had much more contact with Dr. Overby then Dr. Farrell. He is the one that knows me, done my after care, and attends the support group meetings. Dr. Overby is not just another great surgeon. He is so down to earth, caring and motivating to me. He's funny, honest and forthright. I am so very comfortable asking him anything. He has a way of putting me at ease from the moment he walks in the examining room. I never walk out thinking \"darn, I should have asked this or I wish I had asked that.\" I believe it is because:rn1. his personality and his ability to put me at ease and communicate at any level.rn2. he's never in a hurry, or preoccupied with \"other things.\" He comes in and is focused on me. rn3. he is so thorough in his examination, his study of my labs and his knowledge of history.rnrnIt is so utterly apparent that Dr.'s Overby and Farrell love what they do, and do it with excellence. Thank you all.
Dr. Farrell and his staff, particularly Karen, are absolutley wonderful. From the first time I met him right up to my first post op visit he was concerned, enthusiastic, realistic, and honest. Dr. Farrell took all the time I needed before surgery to explain the process, the risks, the expected outcomes and the overall procedure in great detail. He takes every precaution for a safe procedure concentrating on the prevention of blood clots. He has a wonderful calming bedside manner and I have all the faith in the world in him. I would definitely recommend him to anyone considering WLS.
