i've met with dr. scott cunneen and had an excellent first impression. he has a very dry sense of humor and style....so if you are one that needs over-the-top-cloying-bedside-manner, you may be turned off by him at first. however, i am a super smartass and really dig dr. cunneen. he even got some of my "i'm totally nervous, so i'll just throw in a stupid joke here" jokes. he was very informative, respectful and positive about all aspects of the surgery and after-care. AND has a sense of humor!
i've spoken with dr. khalili and will meet him a few times immediately before the surgery.
as a team, i'm very confident with drs khalili and cunneen. from all other patients i know that have had surgery with them, they have had all positive things to say about their experience....so i'm sure i'll give you an update.
I felt very comfortable with Dr. Kahlili and feel he is one of the top WLS surgeons around. It was evident in talking with him and his staff that he is very proactive and educated about WLS yet, he expects his patients to do their part as well, something I admire. Nothing but great things to say about my entire experience!
1. Loved him...great sense of humor.
2. It didnt.
3. Office and staff were great and compassionate.
4. Future patients should know that the whole process from beginning to end was so easy.
5. Great emphasis. I just had my 1st follow up appt and they stressed, water adn vitamins. They want me to contact them with any concerns and see them in 3 monts.
6. Not very structured. Only to see them in 3 months.
7. I rate him a 10
8. Both are great of course, but I'd choose surgical comptence over bedside manner anytime!
I met with him at my initial consult back in Jan, he seemed extremely competent and I felt comfortable with him. He did not rush us. I did not speak with or see him again until I was in the HOSPITAL pre-op area where they get you ready for surgery. After the surgery he did speak with my husband and parents and they report him to be pleasant and reassuring. I did not see him at all after the surgery, I only saw his associate Dr. Chopra (his intern I think) who discharged me. I would have felt better seeing Khalili again.
I felt the office staff to be very nice but virtually impossible to get calls returned. You just have to keep on them, don't bother leaving a message just keep calling!
I actually only met Dr. Khalili once -- on my surgery date. When I go to the office, I am seen by Dr. Gary Furman, whom I believe no longer does surgeries himself. This was a little off-putting at first, but it seems as if the system works for this practice.
I like Dr. Furman very very much. My opinion of him has not changed over time.
His office staff is kind and friendly, however, the insurance department is extremely difficult to get hold of. My surgery was delayed many months due to difficulties in communicating with this department. I have also had difficulties getting someone to return my calls about my bills postoperatively. But overall, aside from the insurance/billing department, the staff has been very kind and helpful.
However, even though I had problems with the insurance department, they do the entire pre-authorization and appeals process themselves. The patient is not asked to deal with their insurance companies directly. To me, this was a huge help and a major factor in choosing this practice.
I also believe that there was a personel change in the insurance department
Dr. Furman was very thorough with discussing the risks and procedures of surgery beforehand, and as he has been with aftercare. His bedside manner is fantastic.
Dr. Khalili's surgical skill is top-knotch. I was completely amazed by how little pain I experienced and how very little scarring there was.
I do rate this practice highly overall.
My first impression of Dr. khalili. was he seemed very nice. Everyone in the office was very nice during my initial consult. My impression of the office staff changed however when I finished all my pre-op tests and they kep not returning phone calls. The office staff is kind of hard to reach. I got my insurance approval(no thanks to them, my primary physician put it through for me) 6/10, but they refused to give me a date as they kept saying did not have all my pre-op tests. They kept getting faxed over with no response. I had to call them 3 times a day sometimes to get ahold of the people I needed to. I fianlly got a date of July 12, 2004. Not so bad since my initial consult was 5/4/04(took 2 months to get that appointment)
My pre-op visit is 7/7 with another doctot, Dr, Furman. They said my Dr is busy??? I will keep you posted.
