Dr. Bryne wass really nice, very warm to everyone at the seminar. He was up front about the side effects and risks, which was nice. I'd rather have the facts and not the glitter. Plus.... I LOVE his accent!rn

My first impression of Dr. Byrne was that he was a \"no nonsense\" kind of guy. He said the truth, even though many people did not know how to handle it. Since then my impression have not changed. He remains to be \"no nonsense\". Dr. Byrne is very confident of his ability to perform a great surgery, and every patient wants to feel confident in his or her surgeon. In fact, his entire team is as confident as he is. He stresses that the surgeries are \"tools\" not \"cures\" for obesity, and I respect that; therfore the patient has to work. After surgery, I saw a softer side of Dr, Byrne as he propped himself against my bed rail wearing casual clothes, a warm smile, and saying, \"Everything went well!\" I do not regret my decision of Dr. Byrne or Medical University of South Carolina.

I first met Dr. Bryne at the meeting before my first clinic appointment. I saw him in clinic that morning. He was very nice. He treated me like a person. Some doctors treat me like I am an idiot because I am fat. But Dr. Byrnes understands and was great. I trust him and look forward to my surgery date. I will update and let you know how it goes with him when he does my surgery.rnUpdate: Even after surgery I feel Dr. Bryne is a wonderful DR. He answered all my question and took great care of me. I wouldn't want anyone else operating on me. This is one EXCELLANT doctor.

Dr. Byrne and his staff were awesome!!! They helped to make my family and me very comfortable with the whole process of the surgery. I would recommend Dr. Byrne to anyone who is considering gastric bypass.

my first impression of Dr.bryne was that he was very gruff but after that first meeting he has been just wonderful to me and my family especially my wife and his staff are some of the most caring people that I have ever meet

Thursday, January 4th -rnrnI went thru evaluation today with Dr. Byrne & his staff. I was very comfortable with them all. Dr. Byrne is definitely a no-nonsense doctor who puts his patient first, but also tells them like it is. If you want this tool to work - YOU have to work it. It's not up to him or his staff. I like the honesty they all exhibited.rnrnThe Risk Management Lecture was informative because it covered each major step of the process of WLS emphasizing again that it's up to the patient to work the tool, not him.rnrnThank-you, Dr. Byrne - I look forward to having you as my surgeon!

AT FIRST I THOUGHT DR. BYRNE WAS VERY GRUFF AND MATTER OF FACT. IT SEEMED AS IF HE WAS TRYING TO SCARE ALL OF THE PEOPLE AT THE INTRODUCTION SEMINAR.rn AFTER MY PRE-OP VISIT MY IMPRESSIONS STARTED TO CHANGE. DR. BRYNE SEEMS TO PERSONALLY CARE ABOUT EACH AND EVERYONE OF HIS PTS. I DIDN'T SEE HIM THE DAY OF SURGERY TILL THAT EVENING, HE WAS VERY SUPPORTIVE AND IMFORMATIVE ON HOW THE SURGERY WENT.rn ON MY FIRST POST-OP VISIT I FELT AS IF I WAS AN OLD FRIEND. DR. BRYNE IS VERY CONCERNED W/ EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR POST-OP RECOVERY AND IS VERY ENCOURAGING. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. BYRNE AND HIS ASSOCIATES AND STAFF. ALTHOUGH IT'S A LONG DRIVE FOR ME, TWO AND A HALF HOURS ONE WAY, IT'S WAS WELL WORTH THE DRIVE.

My first impression of him was that he is very informative. He gave an hour long lecture that told about every part of the procedure. He told you about the success stories and the ones that had troubles. He explained all of the risks.rnrnHe left you to make up your mind on what procedure you wanted to have with out trying to sway you in either direction. I kind of felt like they were much more comfortable not doing the Lap band, although they would, only because they had done more of the other.rnrnDr. Morgan gave me my first work up. I requested that Dr. Byrnes do the surgey and I felt like I insulted her. She was very nice about it, I just hate hurting people's feelings. After requesting that I consult with Dr. Byrnes the same day, he was there in minutes, answering any question's that I had. I truely feel like any of the Doctor's in his team would be great.rnrnI arrived at MUSC at 8am and left at 4:30pm. I talked with everyone from the financial consultant to the doctors, the dietion, the nurse, the phyc doctor, and I sat through 3 classes. But when I left, I had tons of information.rnrnI believe my choice in MUSC and Dr. Byrnes and his team was a good one.rnrn

I was sent to Dr. Byrne by Dr. Fields(Gallbladder). He said he was the best around and they were friends and he knew him well. I appreciate the fact that Dr. Bryne does not sugar coat anything. I have heard his bedside manner is not great, but I do not care. I care about the person who is going to help determine whether I live or die and that they know what they are doing. I know I have drove Lisa and Amanda nuts, but they are the best. I used to deal with Joyce and Lisa and Amanda are far better, even though Joyce was nice as well. I enjoy Dr. Byrne's accent as he is from Dublin, Ireland. I have been told my family came from Ireland or Scotland. rnrnAlso I would like to note that the Weight Management Center has been a great help to me in getting my insurance to approve me. I was the first person to complete their new PREOP program. Josh and Tonya gave me alot of support. And I know they are there for me If I need them now or later after the surgery.

My first impression of Dr.Byrne is that he tells it like it is and does not sugar coat things.rnHis office staff are all kind and will try to do whatever they can to help you get approved.rnFuture patients should know that no one will hold your hand through this process. You have to do your own research and be your own advocate when it comes to your insurance company. rnDr.Byrne stresses that aftercare is more important than the surgery itself. If you don't do the right thing and follow the directions given to you, you will be fat again (I told you, he tells it like it is).rnThe doctor has a very structured aftercare program including office visits, nutritional couseling, and several support groups.rnOverall, I would say that Dr.Byrne knows his stuff and will take care of you. He will give you the tool to help change/save your life but it's really up to you what happens.rnI would say that surgical competence is more important to me than a doctor who will stand at my bedside and hug me if I'm feeling blue.
