1)AT FIRST HE WAS FINE. 2)ONCE I WAS IN STEP DOWN HIS BEDSIDE MANOR CHANGED AT LEAST IN MY OPINION, HE SEEMED ONLY INTERESTED IN GETTING ME OUT OF THE HOSPITAL, AGIN ONLY MY OPINION 3)THE PREP STAFF WERE GREAT THE NURSING STAFF ON THE FLOOR NOT SO, THEY HAD NO TIME, THEY WERE TOO BUSY WITH OTHER PATIENCE IT SEEMED 4)HE HAD NO PATIENCE. 5)EXACTLY AS I JUST SAID, HE HAD NO PATIENCE WITH ME AT LEAST.5)I NEVER HEARD FROM HIM OR HIS STAFF AFTER LEAVING THE HOSPITAL. 7)NO ONE CALLED IN 2004 I CAN'T ANSWER FOR NOW. 8) HE DID NOT EXPLAIN THE RISKS DR, GOLDEN DID. 9)I WOULD RATE HIM AT 5 OUT OF 10. 10)BOTH ARE MOST IMPORTANT IN MY OPINION.rnI DON'T KNOW ABOUT HIS SURGICAL COMPETENCE. I AM NOW 5 YEARS OUT AND HAVE GAINED 40 LBS BACK. I DON'T BLAME HIM FOR THIS, HOWEVER, I WISH I KNEW HOW TO HANDLE IT. IT IS SO DEPRESSING. I HAVE A CONSULT ON JUNE 17TH I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME TURN THIS AROUND OR MAYBE MY SURGERY FAILED ON SOME LEVEL. I JUST DON'T KNOW. I JUST KNOW THAT I DESPERATLEY NEED HELP AND I THINK MY FIRST STEP IS WITH HIS STAFF.

I first met Dr. McNatt in June of '06, I had initially gone for a lap-band evaluation, and after reconsidering, decided to go with RNY. Dr. McNatt does more of the Gastric bypass procedures, so I thought I wanted the \"old Hand\" to do my cutting. Second meeting on 1/18/07 with me and my husband (I was told to bring him with me this time so he could talk to us both.) He was very matter of fact and business like with our first meeting, same with second. He explained the basics of the surgery, in a very professional manner. As a nurse, I felt comfortable with his expertise. He is not a \"warm and fuzzy\" type of fellow. Serious and matter of fact...but in my experience with surgeons, that's the kind of guy you want cutting on you.... Knows his stuff, has alot of confidence, doesn't take any crap (can't be talked into things by his patients!),able to make life saving calls in a split second kind of guy! Yea', that's my man!!! I was able to make him grin a few times, so I know somewhere he has a sense of humor. Explained that this is merely a tool, I will have alot of work to do post op, and that will be paramount to my success in weight loss! Explained all the risks, including death to me and my husband. WVU does have a great Bariatric Surgery Coordinator in Mary Anne Yanosik...(also no monkey business type RD,LD.) But she knows her stuff. McNatt is a n 9 on a 1-10. ( Could be a little warmer!) I feel like he is a good man, and confident surgeon!

Went to a conference at WVU and met him later in the day. He is very professional. However, when I asked him a few questions on the side...he was very hospitable, kind, and educated. He seems to care.rnrnOn my first visit to his office at Ruby Memorial Hospital, my husband and I were treated nicely. He was all business... Some have said they do not like his bedside manner. Sure, I would like someone to be sympathetic and mushy...but I guess he's not into that. He's straight to the point. rnrnSince the surgery--I would rather have someone with his expertise than anything. I had 3 hernias that he repaired and all went well. My husband said I was on the table approximately 6 hours. The doctor visited each day and was optimistic about my recovery. He was concerned & asked important questions. I feel he did a great job on me and hope that I can do my part in the whole success! Anyway, if you have questions, you can contact his office at: 304-293-6386. Mary Ann is his bariatric surgery coordinator. I was impressed with the entire bunch. I had begun my journey in FairFax, Va at Inova Fair Oaks hospital; however, my insurance would not approve it. So, I went to Morgantown and this whole process was long, but, it was successful===so far! I rate Dr. McNatt a 10 (with 10 being the best); Mary Ann, the nutritionist--a 10 (w/ 10 being the best); the hospital care-a 5. They are short staffed, I think. The best nurse there was 'Rita'. She was awesome. Anyway, the surgeon was knowledgeable, nice, thorough, & had a nice personality.

My wife and I have the same surgeon. I will have lap on October 21st and Mary will have it on December 9th. I cannot say enought about the efficiency and caring displayed by the entire WVU hospital. Appointments have all been ontime and very informative. The screening process and the testing required was very thorough. Neither Mary or I require a lot of hand holding from our doctor. The fact that he has a good reputation and demonstrates that he cares for his patients are enough for us. I noted some comments about how Dr. McNatt appeared distant and reserved. I believe that he is rather low-key. He clearly described the surgery and the risks and complications. I have complete faith and trust is his abilities. People must remember that he is not a family doctor. He is a surgeon and by the looks of it a very good surgeon. I will take competence over bedside manner anytime in a surgeon.

I have met with Dr. McNatt twice and each time he spent at least an hour explaining everything and answering my questions. He is very personable and I had no problems with him.
