My appointment went very well. Right when I walked up to the receptionist in the waiting room they told me he was running about 1/2 hour late, which I appreciated them telling me. His nurse spent a lot of time with me, telling me about what they do, what they're all about. He's a no-nonsense kind of guy, but when he smiles, his whole face lights up. I liked him immediately. We talked a long time about the procedure, why I'm a candidate, what to expect. I never felt rushed by him in the least when I knew he was running behind. He yawned once and apologized and said he'd been on-call most of the night. So, as far as first impressions, I felt very comfortable with him. He told me his experience as a surgeon. He told me complications he's run into with the surgery and things that "could" happen. He didn't sugar-coat anything.
His is polite. Very direct. Does not sugar coat expectations. So far his nurse has been very helpful with answering questions and setting up preop appoitments. One office girl must have been new because she didn't know what forms was what and had almost as many questions as I did. At first he didn't think I was in need of the surgery that bad. Yes I'm over by 150lbs. to my goal weight. But I am still a active person that doesn't seem to be having great health problems yet. After telling him my thoughts of the surgery and my famil history of heart trouble he ordered the paperwork and tests with no objections. He seems to be a straight forward person and likes the same from his patients. He also likes his patients to be informed. He is thinking of getting a support group going because of requests from his patients. We didn't cover much about aftercare. That will be a question I will have to ask his nurse when I call next time. After only one meeting with him, its hard to tell you details about him but I will update this as I have more contact with him and his staff.
I am now post-op. The more I have seen and talked to my surgeon the more I have found him to be a very kind and wonderful caring person. He has given me the best care that I could have ever expected.
