Dr. Sherer is an impressionable, friendly person, but very direct and no BS. He never tried to "sell" me on the surgery, and he carefully explained all the risks and details.
The aftercare program in not structured, but Dr Sherer and the staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful in the follow up visits.
I give him the highest possible rating. Surgical competence is more important than bedside manner, but Dr Sherer possesses both.
Very compassionate, reassuring, honest.
Impression hasn't changed. Office staff very nice and efficient, I understood about the wait for the visit and was well worth it.
Thought maybe the doctor was too honest, My husband now doesn't want me to have the surgery, he is afraid of losing me.
Expect pure Honesty, because that is what you will get. Dr. Sherer highly emphasizes after care with labs, follow up visits and participation in skilled support groups.
Focused alot on the risks of surgery. A very knowledgeable, compassionate and humble physician knowing that God is the one ultimately in control. Surgical competence and bedside manner definitely qualify in my expectations, you just hear about those who don't do well with the surgery from people you know and that makes one weary.
I was very impressed with Dr. Sherer. During my consultation, he was very attentive and made me feel very comfortable. He explained all the risks involved with the surgery . He told me about his faith in God, in particular regarding to his surgical skills (A BIG PLUS IN MY BOOK!). He didn't make me feel like he was in a hurry to get to his next patient. He was very patient as he answered all my questions. He came by the recovery room after my surgery and let me know that I was doing fine; the surgery had went very well. This was very comforting to me. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering this surgery.
I was very impressed with Dr. Sherer on my consultation. He was kind and attentive. Explained all about the surgery, the risks involved, and answered my questions. His office staff was friendly and helpful. At this point, I would rate him very high! The one negative was that my appointment was at 3 PM and I didn't see him until almost 4:30. But I had been told that his office usually runs behind and that I would get all the time I needed with him too. They were right!
at first he angered me by telling me that I would die without this surgery. I could not understand why he would say this when I was there wanting to have the surgery. He turned out to be a great doc., but at 7 weeks out I had some problems and his staff really sucked. They would relay incorrect info, or no info and each day I got worse. Eventually I was hospitalized, rehydrated, pumped full of meds and dilated and since that good to go!! End result...I'm great, Dr. Sherer great, terrible office staff.
My first (and only so far) impression of him was great. He was thorough and answered all 6 pages of questions I had. He also let me record the whole visit on tape so I could go back and listen again since it was so much info at one time. I have only seen him once so my impression has not changed at this point.
The office staff has been very helpful AND friendly every time I have called. They have also followed through when they said they would do something (ie mailing a packet, calling to make an appt, calling if there was a cancellation). I called several times to see if there had been a cancellation and not once did they act like I was bothering them.
The thing I liked least was the long wait (1 1/2 hours after my appt time), but I had been warned so it really didn't bother me that bad.
In my opinion, aftercare is not really emphasized, but he did go over all of the vitamins that I will need to take forever.
Dr. Sherer was very upfront about the risks involved with this surgery in general and he laid out the different risks with lap vs open. He stressed the risk involved even to the point of saying it is more risky than open heart surgery.
I rate him high and feel good about him doing my surgery.
Surgical competence is most important to me, but when you can get good bedside manner to boot, that is the best of both worlds.
I met Dr. Sherer when I went with Toni for 2 different procedures. He is very personable and reassuring. When I went to him for a consult for my own surgery, he took the time to answer all my questions, and made sure I heard directly from him what I could expect. I feel really good about him and his staff.
