I found the reviews for Dr. Rivera, while searching for his new phone number (he recently moved his office to Suffer, NY and is opening an office in New City) and had to add to the already positive reviews. I had my surgery in Aug. 2007. I originally was going to have bypass surgery the year before, but put it off. When I decided it was time and went back to Dr. Rivera, he convinced me to switch to the lap band. He laid out his reasons and thoroughly explained why and I ultimately followed his recommendation and was glad I did.rnrnAside from being a compete professional, Dr. Rivera is patient, supportive and communicates with the patient in a way that one can understand. Even when I went through a period of slight weight gain, he has always made a point of focusing on the positives, while suggesting ways to get back on track. I strongly recommend him.
My first impression of Dr. Rivera at the seminar was he was your average text book dr. When I met with him in the office he was the opposite. He spent a while with me explaining things and answering my questions.rnDr. Rivera smiles a lot and for me that makes me feel a lot more comfortable with him, not like some dr's who have an expressionless face. That makes a big difference in my book.
My first impression was that he was young. Why does it seem that my doctors are getting younger and younger? LOL can't be that I'm getting OLDERRRRRRRRRR ???rnAfter consulting with him I found him to be very thorough and informative. He answered all my questions. He was patient, and caring. rnI can't say my impression changed much overtime. He calls me always with any questions I have for him. I really like the efficency and friendliness of his office staff. They seem to go above the call of duty (waited for me to come in and weigh in at the end of a day, cuz I was sure I wasn't losing) Dr. Rivera feels aftercare is very important. He highly recommends support groups and meeting with Nutritionist as well as seeing him on scheduled dates. I would rate him an over all excellent surgeon who is very competent and has a wonderful beside manner. I don't have anything negative to say other than ok, well on my first visit I had a long wait due to his running late he just had his first child and had to do his \"first fatherly duty\" bring him home from hospital!
Dr. Rivera is a very nice individule. His Assistants were very comforting and they delt with my insurance company directly. They gave me all of the information that I needed and step by step gave me instructions on what I needed to do as far as gaining approval. Between 1-10 I give Dr. Rivera an 11. The Dr. did explain all of the risks and benifits of surgery etc... I now see the Dr. regulary for follow up visits and He and his assistants have maintaid the same caring and professional manner that I have experiance since our first encounter.rn
