I met with Dr. Nelson first (she is a fellow) she went over the risk very thoroughly and answered my questions. Then I met with Dr. Murr... my first thought was "Wow, he has REALLY soft hands!" He again went over the risks and asked if we had questions. We asked the same questions and got the same answers that Dr. Nelson gave us. He made me very comfortable with my decision to continue with the surgery. The down side was I had a 2 o'clock appt, but wasn't seen by the drs until 4:30 (2 1/2 hours later), needless to say I was very stressed about this as I had to pick my children up from Pre-School. Overall I was very happy with the doctors!

my first impression is that he was so young, but as we talked he has done over 300 of these just last year and only had 2 that died due to blood clots and lack of following orders. His staff was very nice and did what ever it took to help me feel confident. He was very good at sitting with me and my husband and going over all the pro's and con's and the risks of this surgery. Due to my history of blood clots he took only the highest precautions before.

Dr. Murr came into the room after my husband and I spoke with his fellow Dr. Rodriguez (or was it Fernandez) anyway they were both great. Dr. Murr answered all of our questions, especially those related to risk. He has great eye contact, and seemed surprised that my initial contact with his office had been over 3 years prior to my actually seeing him.

2-15-05 Now that my surgery is over I must say I am still impressed with Dr. Murr, prior to surgery he went and looked my husband in the eye and told him the expected wait times so he wouldn't panic in the waiting room - he later had me sent to ICU just to make sure I was got real good care for the 1st 24 hours after surgery. Dr. Murr made his own rounds and I saw him twice while still in the hospital. I was also followed up very carefully by his fellow and several of the GI Residents of the University of South Florida who Dr. Murr is affiliated with.

At my f/up appt I saw his PA, Jose - who is awesome! He answered every question I had, and then some.

8/16 I finally met Dr. Murr and his staff. He is exactly what people described. Very upfront and honest, answers all questions, is nice and professional. Very capable. He has been practicing medicine in the US for nearly 18 years, so I would say that's a good sign. Not only was he direct with me, he answered all of my boyfriend's questions and was sure to include him in the conversation. I liked that a lot.
You cannot go wrong with Dr. Murr. You are dealing with the best when you choose him!

1/18 - After all the medical complications that happened after surgery, I have to say that Dr. Murr and the rest of the surgery team were right there for me. He took the time out to see me several times in the hospital and he and his staff took great care of me!

When I met Dr Murr for the first time (9/27/04), it was for my surgical consultation. After he reviewed my file, he said he would do a laparoscopic RNY. Dr Murr seems very confident.

Dr Murr's staff always returns your calls. They never make you feel like you are bothering them with your questions and updates.

Dr Murr requires a lot of testing and clinical work-up, which I think will be the reason for the best outcome. Everything from medical history, EKG, psychological evaluation, nutritionist teaching, etc. Because of all of these steps, they make sure you know this is what you want and you will be successful.

My first impression of Dr. Murr was very good. He was personable and professional and answered all of my questions. His office staff is also very curtious. So far, my experience with Dr. Murr and his staff has been all positive. I chose Dr. Murr because his support group and aftercare program are exceptional.

There is nothing bad I can say about Dr. Murr. He is excellent and very helpful. The most important issue is he takes everything seriously! He will run every test possible to confirm the patient is fine and will listen to your complaints without judgement. I whole heartedly recommend him.

Doctor Murr was selected for me by my Nephrologists. I had to have a 35 year old WLS "taken down" as it was causing me some very serious complications. We went to Dr. Murr because he was so highly recommended as someone who could take on my difficult surgery. They were right. My surgery was over 6 hours long and my hospital stay 11 days, 5 in intensive care. On my first visit with him, he reviewed my records and said the magic words, "I think I can help you"! He was direct, no fills, told me the dangers ahead for me but reassured me that he could help. I had not considered RNY at that point along with the "take down" but as he explained it would be the best thing to do. He called it a "revision". I went home and started research on the RNY as I knew nothing about it. That's how I found this site.

I was confident that I was in good hands and looked forward to ending my kidney problem that existed because of the old surgery. My hospital stay was 11 days, 5 of which were in intensive care. They were very cautious of my kidney condition. I only have one and they are trying to save it. Because I had so much work done they were also doubly cautious. Dr. Murr has assembled a wonderful staff and have good kidney doctors also attending me. The staff on the 8th floor of TGH treat you like royalty! The nurses are the best I have ever had. They truly like the patients, their jobs, and each other. Each one kinder and more companionate than the next. Yes, I am saying a lot, but they made such an impression on me. I am for ever grateful.

I had a wonderful private room and when out of intensive care (and I was in during a hurricane, too) I was able to have someone stay all night with me. If it is possible for you to do this, I highly recommend it. Having someone there to walk you in the middle of the night or keep you company is you can't sleep is great. My husband was there all day and a friend all night. This was a luxury!

I went home with 1 drain tube and a feeding tube. I was fed through the tube for 2 weeks, then onto pureed food. I also have HHC Nurses twice a day at home to change my dressing as I went home with a partially open incision. I'm down to once a day now, and that should end this week.

Three weeks after discharge I met the Doctors assistant who removed the drain and feeding tube and gave me the scoop on what they did in surgery and what I should be doing for the next 4 months until my next visit. He also gave me instructions to have periodic lab work done and to be sent to Dr. Murr. If there is a problem, they would schedule an appointment.

As you can see my experience has been good with little complication (fingers crossed). I would suggest this Doctor and Hospital to everyone...but mostly to people that have a higher risk or big complications...Dr. Murr has golden hands. I can never thank him enough, and I thank him in my prayers often.
