Dr Roller was open and friendly but kind of distant too. He is a complex individual. He did put me at ease in the first visit, by taking the time to answer questions and draw diagrams of what would be going on in my body. He did not make me feel rushed or like I was taking up his time with stupid questions. When I left the office, I felt that I was going to be in safe, competent hands. Life got in my way of having the surgery right away, so I ended up going in a year later for a new consult and having the actual surgery (Aug 3rd, 2010). My overall impression of Dr Roller did not change. He made sure I was ready this time, was going to put myself first (for once) and was just as firmly friendly as before.
His, office staff are the tops in their field, (in my opinion). They are knowledgeable, courteous, friendly, and will answer any question they can, (without being exasperated, for the most part). I live in another state, so I called a few times during my first couple of weeks home afterwards, and it kind of depended on who answered the phone. Sometimes I could get the answer I needed right away, other times it was like pulling teeth from a hen. But overall, my experience has been good.
I cannot think of anything right off hand that I liked least about him, He checked on me daily while I was in the hospital. He treated my Parents with respect and dignity, took the time to answer their questions as well. Mom stayed in the hospital with me, and he always took the time to ask her if she had any questions, as well.
I think that future patients should know that he is very good at what he does, but he likes his patients to have questions ready at the consults and afterwards. It seems to me, (in my opinion) that Dr Roller kind of uses a rule of thumb, that the more questions a patient asks both before and after surgery; the better prepared and successful the patient is going to be throughout his or her lifetime afterwards. I noticed this fact right away because of my year apart consults and the change in his maanner towards me since I did not come very prepared the second time around. In this scenerio, He can seem brusque, but he genuinely wants to make sure his patients are ready for this life-altering surgery.
Dr Roller and the whole team at Northern Colorado Surgical Associates emphasize aftercare. They have both a short term and lifetime structured program in place, and require that their patients make the commitment to do both the Short term which is the first full year after surgery, as well as the lifetime, which includes follow-up appointments for life.
NCSA has a very indepth Consult which addresses the risks and complications of the different surgeries prior to meeting with the Surgeon. Then Dr Roller goes back over the risks and makes sure you understand them thoroughly for the surgery you will be having, before setting the surgery date.
Overall, I would have to rate his overall performance as 100%. I have nothing negative to say about his abilities. He and his staff are tops in my book. I feel both competence and bedside manner are great. His staff are superb amd I was very glad I picked NCSA as my Surgery team. I am two weeks out now, and doing good!! My adventure has just begun! Thanks to Dr Roller, the staff at NCSA and the Staff at Poudre Valley Hospital!! I am looking forward to my new adventure!! :O)
