Dr Chiang is a very skilled surgeon who has a very good reputation in the area. Bariatric surgery is only part of his practice. He is a very caring person, who listens to your questions and concerns. The Bariatric Institute of WI, is a group of 4 Doctors which he is a part of. They have a seperate office set up for this part of their practice. They each have a seperate day of the week which they see their patients. Doctor Chiangs day is Thursdays. I would recommed him to anyone!
My first impression of Dr. Chiang was that he was very soft-spoken, and extremely knowledgable and willing to answer questions. I felt like he would be very supportive of me and try to help me succeed.rnrnAs time went on this impression proved to be accurate. Dr. Chiang was very supportive of my decision to go with the lap-band even though he thought that the bypass would be better for me. At my most recent adjustment (February 28, 2008), it had been almost 3 years since I'd been in (insurance change) and I have backslid considerably in my progress. There were no nasty looks, no reprimands. He just emphasized that he wanted to make sure we got it right so I'd start losing weight again. He did read me the riot act about exercise though. :) rnrnHis office staff is very friendly and helpful. At least one of the nurses, and I think one of the receptionists have had weight loss surgery, and there is no feeling of being judged or looked down upon. It's great.rnrnObviously with the lap-band aftercare is essential. His clinic has a great program in place for people who can't get their adjustments covered by insurance. $300 gets you three adjustments (fill or unfill), and there's no expiration date. And while they do emphasize the importance of getting your labs done at the appropriate intervals, they won't deny you an adjustment if you're over-due, which surprised me pleasantly.rnrnAs far as risks go, my husband and I had already exhaustively researched all the available options and had pretty much made up our minds to go with the lap-band. We did ask Dr. Chiang at my consult what he thought would be most appropriate. He said he thought the bypass would be better, and he tended to downplay a lot of the risk factors involved in that which we weren't crazy about, but he didn't give us a hard time about the decision we ultimately ended up making, which was nice. rnrnHis surgical expertise and knowledge are extensive, and his bedside manner is great as well. He is soft-spoken and warm, and takes his time with you. You never feel rushed when you're in to see him, which is a rare thing. He was 15 minutes late for my last appointment though, which kinda sucked - I drove all the way from Fort Atkinson and needed to get BACK to that area so I could get to work. I ended up getting back a lot later than I would have liked. He doesn't start seeing patients until 9:30-10-ish, which has presented a problem for me from the beginning, particularly right after my surgery when I wasn't at a job where I could just leave for an appointment; I had to have benefit time available, and if I didn't, I was out of luck.rnrnOverall I would recommend Dr. Chiang to anyone looking into weight loss surgery. You will be well-cared for!rnrn
Dr. Manfred Chiang is very knowledgeable, kind, easy to talk to and all around awesome doctor. He really knows his stuff and was very honest and willingly to explain what I didn't understand. He is hands down the best doctor I have ever had, a 10 out of 10. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that the surgeons take turns in the office, so he only works in the office one day a week, which is kind of a pain for the patient but well worth the level of care I received!
Had surgery on July 30th and Dr. Chaing was great He came and visted everyday and really listened to all my concerns and MADE SURE I was comfortable at all times. I only had four incisions and one drain which I was pretty impressed with. I would recommond the bariatriac Institute of Wisconsin to anyone. All the physicians where great.
So far, I am VERY happy with my choice of surgeon. Dr. Chiang is kind and patient, most importantly, he is never patronizing. The staff are helpful and friendly as well. Elmbrook Hospital, which is where the surgeries are performed, has a great reputation. Dr. Chiang's office people helped me to coordinate lab test dates and kept trak of the paperwork and I was approved within minutes of having the last bit of labwork sent to them. My only complaint (and it is rather small) is that there was one occasion when someone at the office did not get back to be in a timely fashion.
When I first met with Dr. Chiang it was at an informational seminar. He thoroughly answered everyone's questions. He was honest and up front about possible complications and at my consultation he went over everything once again with me one on one. His office staff is wonderful also. I had lots of questions regarding insurance and a few problems with my insurance. Meghan, Darlene, and Barb handled it all for me. I ended up being APPROVED before I even finished my pre op tests!
He is wonderfully kind and competent. I have had zero complications and feel great! He did an AMAZING job!
The staff at BIW are also AMAZING! SO caring and thorough. I would reccomend them to anyone.
They really take the time to answer any questions and take such good care of you!
Aftercare is extremely emphasized. They really push you to go to their support meeting and it is a great support group.
The risks of surgery were thoroughly explained to me.
I think both good bedside manner and surgical competence are important. Dr. CHiang has both.
