Dr. Madura was very professional and extremely punctual -- a huge bonus! He didn't seem rushed or preoccupied, and took time to fully answer all my questions. Dr. Madura seemed very honest when discussing the surgery and possible complications. I liked that he was able to challenge some of my beliefs without being confrontational. He was not overly friendly, but was not condescending or rude -- things I have experienced in the past with other physicians. He seems to genuinely care about his patients and their battle with obesity. It's ideal to have a surgeon with both excellent surgical skill and a great bedside manner -- but if I could choose only one it would definitely be surgical competence. I anticipate Dr. Madura will have both at the time of surgery.
Sonia the nurse was terrific. Again I'd like to mention the punctuality of the staff. I never had to sit around anywhere for any length of time. The medical student who did my initial assessment was great as well -- I think her name was Jen? The office girls were fine, but kind of disorganized and flighty. One answers the phone way too quickly and it's difficult to understand the name of the practice when you call. Sam is extremely helpful and is the "go to" person regarding insurance, surgery dates, etc., and is always polite and knows her job.
One thing you should know about Dr. Madura --he's down to earth but professional. He's not a "coddler" so if that's what you want, better look elsewhere. If you want honesty and competence, he's your guy.
Dr. Madura does stress the importance of aftercare and the follow up visits to his office. He leaves a lot of the actual minutiae to the dietician -- diet, exercise, behavior modification, supplementation, etc. and deals primarily with the surgical aspects. The dietician definitely stresses the importance of staying connected to a support group of some kind, but there was nothing structured offered through them that I recall.
The only thing I'd change is that I wished I had been told more about how the whole process works, starting from the initial consultation through post-op. I've had to bug Sam with a bunch of calls because I didn't know what, if anything, I needed to be doing for insurance for example. It would be more clear to lay it out step by step so patients know what to expect when.
DR. MADURA WAS REALLY NICE.HE WAS HONEST WITH ME UP FRONT.SINCE THEN I HAVE REFERRED A FRIEND TO HIM.SHE IS DOING VERY WELL ALSO.
SINCE MY SURGERY I SEE HIM ONCE A YEAR.HE IS REALLY A KIND, CARING UP FRONT PERSON.
DR.MADURA IS A LIFE SAVER.
AT LEAST I FEEL THAT WAY.
HE EMPHASIZE AFTERCARE A GREAT DEAL.
IT MADE THE PROCEDING VERY WELL UNDERSTANDABLE.
FROM A SCALE OF 1-10 I GIVE HIM AN 100.
BOTH ARE A GREAT DEAL.
I liked him. He told me what to expect, then asked me if I had any questions. He was completely open even about any patients he had lost and why. He didn't talk down to me or make me feel bad about my weight. I haven't had surgery yet, not until Nov. 4th, 2004 but so far I feel extremely comfortable with what I am about to do and with Dr. Maduras skills as a surgen.
dr madura was great i loved him , he was so polite and curtuios he and his staff took the time to explain everything to me. he cares so much about his patientsa that when i was having a problem he told me to come in his office asap and i did . his after care programs are great and he cares about u as a person not just being his patient . if i had to rate him on a scale from 1 to 10 id give him a 500.
dr. madura was great liked him from the beginning. no my impression did not change.his staff was great. that there wasn't two of him.that his is good at what he does.his is good about the aftercare.their program is excellent. they informed me about all the risks completely.i would give him top honors.both are very important.
I think Dr. Madura is great. He was very direct and explained everything in ENGLISH not medicalese! No surgical god complex, he seems very down to earth. When we had the family visit he was very informative with my husband, explained the risks plainly and talked about the changes that we as a family are going to have to go through and what my husband can do to help me along. I would recommend Dr. Madura to anyone who is planning or considering WLS.
My first impression of Dr. Madura was a wonderful one. He was very interested in me personally, and I was not just another number for his list of surgeries. He took his time and explained everything about the surgery including risks and possible complications. He made me feel very at ease, and allowed me ask any question that I had, no matter how silly I may have thought they were. He really is a caring surgeon. I highly recommend him.
Well first of all, my thoughts of Dr. James A. Madura is he is God sent to those of us who have difficulty in losing weight and keeping it off. My first impression of Dr. was, i thought he was so nice and to the point, Doc told me about everything that would happen (that he knew of). He explained about things he was aware of and he also stated that he didn't know everything about after the surgery, such as hair loss, and other things that goes on within your own body, he also liked for you to tell him about things you were going thru so others could benefit from the situation. Doc. is the best doctor i have ever seen! and I have had plenty of doctor's! His bed side manner is and was the best, he is so caring. His staff Samatha, and Ms. Catherine are so nice and also caring, it's like they were made just for him. Thanks to all Doctor James Madura's staff and even Sue Mic.(the dietician). Thank you for my life changing experience. Kimberly Cyprien.
