I had a friend who had WLS in April of 2004 and she had Dr. Davidson as her surgeon. She had a completely stressfree surgery and had done tremendously with her weightloss. She had told me that Dr. Davidson was no-nonsense and boy was she right. But I think his gruffness is his way of making you take responsibility for your own recovery and for knowing all the facts going into the surgery. I for one appreciated that! His office staff were very friendly and seemed to know exactly what to do and I left there knowing they would handle everything for me. Dr. Davidson and his staff are all about the aftercare program they offer. It is emphasized over and over how important it is to participate in your aftercare program(i.e., coming in for your check-ups, haveing blood work and bone density tests done, meeting with the dietician, exercising, etc). They are serious about aftercare!
Well my first impression of Dr D. was he was very professional, and business-like. Yes, its true no warm greeting just, lets get down to business. That suits me just fine. The seminar was very very long, and you met with Dr. Davidson that same day. So if you think its will be one of those get in during your lunch hour, think again. I left my house at 11:00 am and didn't get home till 7:00 pm, my husband and family were very worried about me. I forgot my cell phone...yikes!!! I have gone to 2 other seminars and none of the doctors talked about reinforcing the staples at all. Dr. D. goes over them with stitches and some sort of glue. Yes he quizes you about the 2 causes of death associated with the surgery so know them. He offers a $1,500 after care program, now that I'm not sure about wanting to do, but from my understanding you don't have a choice. I would say he is very competent after all he has 27 yrs of experience and althought I haven't had the surgery yet. I don't think I would want anyone else doing it. And I talked with a lady that was in the seminar with me and 4 of her co-workers went with him and 2 others went else where and the 4 that had Dr. D. are doing way better than the ones that went else where. That says it all....
My first impression of the doctor was just a typical reaction. Most doctors are about the same(in my opinion). He seemed to be skilled in his field and his staff was very nice. I already had approval when I went to see him. I had researched the surgery for a few months. When I went to see him all I needed was a surgery date and to go from there. He was extremely accomodating in the fact that I really wanted to have the surgery this year! He had a cancellation or something and was kind enough to offer me the chance at the date so I could have surgery THIS year! I was extremely happy and grateful for his kindness. The aftercare program seems pretty structured they follow patients for at least 3 years. The staff is knowledgeable about the entire process, which helps when you have questions. I feel comfortable with the decision I have made to use them for my surgery. Dr. Davidson will quiz you to make sure you really know about the surgery and the risks.
When I first met Dr. Davidson I thought he was not a very personable man and was all about business and I was right. However, his office staff made up for it in spades. I realized later that I appreciated the fact that he was a straight shooter and serious about his work. I would advise potential patients to not be discouraged by his "bedside manner". He is a caring physician. Dr. Davidson and his staff has put together an awesome aftercare program and made me more than aware of any risks. I would rate my experience with Dr. Davidson and his staff as highly satisfactory.
In my opinion, Dr. Davidson is all about getting the best health for you. His office staff is equally committed to your care. He will not be holding your hand all the way through nor will he be sugar coating anything. He will tell you what to do, when to do it and how to do it. If you aren't willing to follow his way, then you might want to consider someone else. However, with all that said, he knows what to do, when to do it and how to do it for your best interest. I was drawn to Dr. Davidson's office through a search but then noticed that he is a Christian who spends his vacations in South America doing surgeries for people who would otherwise not have this opportunity. This impressed me greatly. The aftercare program is very structured and is of great help to those going through the program. There are support group meetings, daily emails, webpages, and much more to help educate each person. I recommend Dr. Davidson to be your surgeon.
Dr. Davidson is a caring and intelligent physician. I'd been told not to expect warm fuzzies, and that's about right. However, he treated me respectfully and I knew I would be in good hands. His office staff is tremendous and very responsive to phone calls and email. You feel very much a part of the family with them. UPDATE: My surgery went flawlessly and Dr. D. did such a great job. I was released less than 24 hours post-op. I have not had complications, which I owe in large part to Dr. Davidson's expertise. Bottom line: If you want the best surgeon around, this is your guy. He's not going to provide the hand-holding and ooey-gooey responses that some people desire. However, know that he is caring and committed, and that he'll do a wonderful job with your procedure. His office staff will take good care of you for the next three years. You need to do your part, and they'll gladly do theirs.
Dr. Davidson is a No Nonsense kind of doctor. He tells it like it is and doesn't waste time with a lot of small talk. He wants to make sure you have researched this decision, know what to expect, and are commited to follow up. He is a great surgeon but his bedside manner can be a bit gruff. I believe that surgical competence is what to look for when you are making a decision of this magnatude. Your family and friends can provide the love and support needed. The office staff is great and has a structured aftercare program which they require you to participate in. I would recommend Dr. Davidson highly to anyone considering this surgery.
Very nice man and has a wonderful office staff. He is very cut and dry. There office emphasizes a lot on aftercare and they have one. Dr. Davidson's addresses the risk of the surgery as important and lets you understand what they are and tells you want to do to prevent them from happening. I would give both Dr. Davidson and his entire staff an A++. Thanks for giving me this chance!
