Hormuz Irani Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS

Dr. Irani is a General Surgeon, specializing in Bariatric Surgery and Surgical Oncology. He has been in practice in Bakersfield, CA since 1991, after graduating from the University of Sydney in Australia and completing a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Miami. He is a board certified General Surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.Since moving to Bakersfield to work in private practice, Dr. Irani has been involved in the Surgery Residency program at Kern Medical Center and held the position of Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of California San Diego for eight years. Dr. Irani has worked tirelessly to serve the community and provide the highest quality of care to his patients.Dr. Irani is the only trained Surgical Oncologist in Kern County, specializing in breast and colon cancer, and has built an outstanding reputation in his practice of General and Oncologic surgery. After completing additional, rigorous training in Bariatric (weight loss) surgery, he became a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons.In addition to founding Bakersfield Surgical Associates in 2000, Dr. Irani is the founder and director of the Bariatric programs at San Joaquin Community Hospital and Mercy Hospital. His proficiency in laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgical techniques enables him to provide multiple weight loss solutions to patients in these programs.Dr. Irani is currently the Chief of Surgery at San Joaquin Community Hospital and has served as Chief twice at Mercy Hospital and once at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.Dr. Irani is the founder of BAKERSFIELD SURGICAL ASSOCIATES & also founder & director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at both San Joaquin Community Hospital & Mercy Hospitals since 2000.  He is proficient at laparoscopic surgery and both programs offer Laparoscopic Roux Y Gastric Bypass and the LapBand procedures for weight loss.  He has performed over 400 cases with excellent results.He has served as Chief of Surgery twice at Mercy Hospital, once at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital & currently is Chief of Surgery at San Joaquin Community Hospital.
