My first impression of Dr. Searles is that he is a quiet, dedicated and professional man. He enjoys his work and continues to stay on top of the latest information. He is very well informed. He was/is very kind and gentle with me. He answers all of my questions in an honest and easy manner. He sincerely listens to his patients, and after surgery, ensured that I was comfortable and in no pain. He never appeared rushed during our appointments. He fully explained his procedures, and what to expect throughout my WLS journey, I am very impressed with his services, and will recommend him to anyone considering WLS. His staff are very professional, knowledgable, and on top of their game. Anita is such a wellspring of information, and takes the time to work with each patient to ensure their WLS experience is a good one. Before my surgery his office provided me with an excellent information package on aftercare. This included food choice ideas, schedules and amounts for each meal. It also included information on my two week post surgery appointment and what to expect. Dr, Searles is an excellent surgeon. I sincerely recommend Dr. Searles and staff - the best of the best! - Sunny Faith

Dr. Grant Searles is an excellent surgeon. He is a real professional and does an excellent job of keeping his patients informed. His bedside manner is warm, caring and he is a good listener. He's a quiet man but has a good sense of humor and enjoys some banter with his patients. I highly recommend him because I have full faith and confidence in him.

My first impression that Dr. Searles knew what he was doing. He was to the point and he was honest about what was coming up ahead. His office staff is helpful but you need to do your research before the big day comes. Educate yourself and talk to other people who have had the surgery. Dr. Searles did a wonderful job. I had a speedy recovery and I suggest you follow every direction they give you. It's best to lose the weight and get ready for the experience. I found it helpful to walk, walk and WALK after surgery. It helped me in the long run. The checking out of the hospital was a process and the medicine took awhile to arrange but things worked out and I find that this new healthy lifestyle is the best thing that has every happened to me. Do not give up on yourself. Treat your body good.

My first impression was wonderful. He was very nice and let me ask all the questions i wanted.
He has been an angel from day one. And his office staff is wonderful, and pretty much let me call them at the drop of a feather.
They all have all the answers and are very quick to lend an ear.
He and staff were and are very qualified over all in this field.
He had classes where he covered all the concerns one would have with a procedure like this.
I also had to have my gallbladder taken out as well as a biopsy of the liver.
and tho it was not a walk in the park i am so much better. today is 110th day after my surgery. i have lost 73 pounds.

YAY ME!!!!Thanks Doc, You know I love you!!!

Dr. Searles is a competent surgeon and I was completely confident in his abilities, but he is a man of few words. I read a testimonial on this website about him before I met him, and was so glad I did. He will answer any questions you may have, but he doesn't anticipate anything from the patient. I felt comfortable asking him questions and he answered each of them completely, he just doesn't want to chit chat beyond that. He seems genuinely concerned about the welfare of his patients. His office staff is wonderful! His nurse and administrative assistant/receptionist are both WLS patients and are a wealth of information. You can call anytime and ask them anything. They have great tips and really put you at ease before and after your procedure.
Dr. Searles really relies on the patient to work with a dietitican for your aftercare. He is very blunt about the risks of the procedure, which was just fine with me. I didn't need him to sugarcoat the seriousness of the procedure. I wanted to know the facts so I could make an informed decision.
Overall, I would reccomend Dr. Searles. He takes his work very seriously and did a great job in preparing me with the information I needed to make a surgery decision.

Dr. Searles is quite the scholar when it comes to high tech techniques. He used a Davinci robotic machine to work on me. He knew I was concerned about blood clots and took some extra precations with me.rnrnI had a fever one night and called his answering service and he called me back within 15 minutes. rnrnHe does not have many explicit guidelines. I supplemented his information with books, frineds, and a nutritionist. rnrnHis receptionist had the procedure done a year ago and is a great inspiration and source of knowledge.rnrnI think he is a great surgeon and would recommend him to others.

Dr. Searles is a very efficient, friendly (albeit BUSY) doctor. He seemed genuinely interested in me as a patient, and ensured that I knew all of my options and the risks to surgery. He was in a bit of a hurry to get to surgery when I met with him the first time, but answered all of my questions, and made me feel comfortable with the idea of calling the office if I had any questions. His receptionist, Anita, is WONDERFUL! She made sure to give me all the info I needed, and was also very caring and supportive. I have my final appointment with Dr. Searles before surgery on Wednesday, and my surgery in a week.

He is quiet, but caring. He is very competent, but there is not much information to be had - no website, no big packet. I'm kind of an info junky, so that was a little troubling, but I had done plenty of my own research. No structured aftercare program is available. He is very well respected by other doctors in Anchorage, and several recommended him to me. He only has one person in his office, but she is very helpful and knowledgeable. I got insurance approval on the first try.

At first I didn't even consider having surgery in Alaska. I found out that Dr Searles did bariatric surgery so I called his office and explained my situation. I was able to get into see him in about 1-2 days. I ran around town getting lab and psych evalution for his appointment. Dr Searles said he should be able to do surgery around the same time as I was scheduled (less than 3 weeks). I walked out of his clinic with all my paperwork for the pulmonary function, EKG, upper GI, chest xray and blood work. His office worked on getting my approval switched to Anchorage. It took about 2 days for that!!!! I got all my appointments completed and had surgery 3 weeks to the date after meeting Dr Searles. He doesn't have any aftercare program but I did learn alot from the nutrionist and on this web site. I think if you do your research you will be fine with him.
