I liked him from the very begining and my impression of him grew as we neared the surgery date. His office staff was very nice and would go out of their way to help you. I guess the least I liked was not enough time with each visit. He explained everything up front about the surgery, the risks and what to expect after surgery. He even explained my aftercare program and told me about the doctor who would be taking care of me after surgery. I would give Dr. Lin a rating of 9 out of 10. He had a great beside manner and an outstanding surgical competence.
Dr. Lin is very smart, and straight to the point. He will tell you the truth.... the good and the bad possibilities. I found Dr. Lin to be cordial, and well versed in his field. The visit went well, and I left with my questions answered. rn3/29/07 UpdaternDr. Lin did my endoscopy... all went well, and it looks like my surgery will be the first week in June. It will be laproscopic.
Dr. Lin presented at Emory's weight loss seminar back in November. He presented a great overview of the various weight loss methodologies including surgery and their long term effectiveness. Emory's appoach is pretty comprehensive including support groups and dieticians. My first meeting with Dr. Lin included discussion of the lap-band procedure, risks and considerations. I felt he was very thorough. rnrnHis staff worked with me to put together all the necessary paperwork for my insurance to review/approve the surgery. It's alot of work. I had to get letters from my primary care physician, document my previous diet history, bloodwork, meet with a psychiatrist and dietician. There is a great dietician on staff at Emory and I found both the meeting with him and the psychiatist very helpful.rnrnI've now completed all the necesarry paperwork and am awaiting insurance approval. The office staff has followed up with me and kept me informed of all the steps I have completed and what is left. rnrnDr. Lin discussed his concerns with the lap band and my condition: I have had an illeostomy and have alot of scar tissue. He still was confident that a lap band was my best bet and that he would be able to perform the surgery successfuly. rnrnOverall, he is a very confident and knowledgeable surgeon. Two qualities I like in a man I am trusting my life with.
My first impression of Dr. Lin was, great! I felt very comfortable with him, I had only heard positive feedback from all who know him. His assistant Dr. Morganthal was excellant as well. I would recommend Dr. Lin to anyone - he is very concerned about his patients, not only as far as sugery is concerned but on a personal level. He was very up front about how important it is that I do my part in the recovery process. Such as walking, water, proper diet and exercise. His practice has a very structured aftercare program, which I am very thankful for. The diatician is wonderful and will call me right away whenever I have any questions or concerns. Dr. Lin's surgical competence and bedside manner are both superb!!!

My first impression of Dr. Lin was that he wanted to scare the crap out of me. He projected an aura of extreme competence and assurance, but he wanted me to know that just because complications happen infrequently, I wouldn't care about that if I got one. I thought the first visit was actually a little antagonistic because I had some hard questions (like had any of his patients died, and had his malpractice insurance ever been revoked), and he definitely wasn't trying to "sell" me the surgery - which was REALLY GOOD.
So after getting through that initial visit, which wasn't at all touchy feely, but made me feel very secure in my choice of a surgeon, I've actually thought Dr. Lin has a nice, approachable patient manner when I've interacted with him, which has not been that often. I am participating in a study that he is a principal investigator on, and I've had the most interaction with him when I was in the research facility for that.
Also, one of Dr. Lin's associate's performed my endoscopy, but Dr. Lin came by to see me while I was in recovery to ask when I would be by for an office visit to schedule my surgery date. I thought it was very nice that he came by to see me after the EGD.
POST-SURGERY UPDATE: Dr. Lin came by to see me the morning of surgery while I was getting prepped. I was supposed to be the second case of the morning, but I guess the first case didn't work out because I was on the board for 7:30 - first to go. Dr. Lin came back to talk to me, to see if my family was there but to tell me that it didn't matter that all that we needed was "You & Me!" He also came through, possibly for rounds I guess, the first morning after the surgery, with his surgical team, did a very brief examination and told me that they had tested the staple line with a lot of pressure while doing the procedure and that it had held very well. So, I was very happy about that.
Will update after my first post-surgery visit.

I first saw Dr. Lin at the Emory Seminar for Bariatric Surgery. He seemed friendly. The next time I saw him was during my pre-op appointment. He was not so friendly. He was upset. It was a few days prior to my surgery and his office had made a mistake when entering in the code for approval to the insurance company. It was going to have to be open vs. laproscopic. He was not happy at all. He said they would try to get it straightened out, and they did; however, I felt cheated on my chance to take care of my pre-op questions and concerns.
I next saw Dr. Lin in the operating room. He was very kind. He touched my cheek and said everything would be OK.
I saw Dr. Lin one time in the hospital (I was operated on Tuesday afternoon) on Wednesday night. He came by and answered all my questions.
I am now 6 days post-op and those are all the interactions that I have had with Dr. Lin.
Dr. Lin had a great sense of humor and also was very straight-forward with all the facts about my surgery. He's a very smart & talented surgeon. The office staff left a lot to be desired unfortunately. They aren't as "on the ball" as their doctors are. I would recommend to all future patients to come to their first appointment with a list of questions for the surgeon and keep that list updated as you will have more questions as time goes on. My surgeon & his staff placed a large emphasis on after-care and gave me a wonderful, step-by-step plsn to follow after surgery! My surgeon DID discuss the risks of surgery - he hid nothing so I knew exactly what I was doing in making my decision. I would rate Dr. Lin very high - If you want a skilled and caring surgeon, he's the one! In my opinion, although bedside manner is very important, surgical competence is of utmost importance.

Switched to Dr. Lin so that I may have my surgery within this insurance year (2004).I had previously met with Dr.Ramshaw, however he is leaving the practice at the end of the year and is booked until then. Dr. Lin was 2 hours late to my appointment, however this appears to be consistant with a "clinic" type setting. I had an entire page of questions and concerns. He answered all without hesitation. He states that he (or group) had done over 300 surgeries. Appears to be very knowledgeable, and confident that I will have a positive outcome. He states that I am a perfect candidate for this surgery, and he wished morw of his patients has such few co-morbidities. As a pre-op patient...he rates just fine with me.

Met Dr. Lin at the Emory Seminar back in the sring of 2004. I had my consultation with him in August. He is very nice, but there is a girl named Carol in his Crawford Long office who is very inefficient and has caused me some problems in my paperwork process.
I work down the street on Peachtree, a few blocks from his office so that is very convenient.
He stressed aftercare and attending support groups.
He was very upfront about the risks of surgery.
He would not see me without my wife attending.
