I found Dr. Wernsing to be very confident, informative and easy mannered. I thought he talked to me like a peer rather than talked down to me, like I feel a number of health care professionals do. I have heard negative things about his office staff from others, but other than having a gruff phone manner, I found everyone at his office pleasant and efficient. I think Dr. Wernsing is a better choice for people who have already done tons of research, like I have. I don't know that someone who was unfamiliar with the process would have felt comfortable with him. I loved his approach to our consult. I thought it was efficient and I loved that they didn't rehash all of the info I'd already learned in my nutrition class and through my own research. I felt that there was a strong focus on after care. His staff provided tons of information on support groups in the area and councelors who specialize in treating post opperative cases. The risks of surgery were explained matter of factly, they were neither dwelt upon nor minimalized. I feel that he is a well rounded surgeon. His bedside manner was fabulous and he is a skilled surgeon.

My first impression of Dr. Wernsing was tht he was very skilled and very open in his manner. I immediatly felt that he was very competent and skilled in this surgery. My impression did not change over time but I only grew more confident. His office staff is great and extremly helpful. I was very nervous about the surgery and he reassured me completly about it. He was very upfont about the surgery tellling me about the risks and complications that could occur. I made up my mind to do exactly what was expected of me and I have. I had no complications and have done everything I was told to do. If the diet said to do it for 2 to 4 weeks I did it for the 4 weeks. I took all of my medicaitons as prescribed.
I had my Surgery on March 25, 2004 and as of today January 16,2005 I have lost 122 pounds.
Even though I have not reached the 138 pounds that I set my mind on I am content at 146 pounds. I have come to realize that my added weight is loose skin and unless I can get my insurance to pay for it I will keep it.I wear a size 10 or 12now and am extremly happy. I cannot say enough about Dr. Wernsing and what a wonderful surgeon he is.
I do not have anything negative to say. As the one woman in work said not to long ago is that I should be the poster person for this surgery because so far everything has been positive for me.

The office was running late because the other doctor was out on vacation so everything seemed kinda rushed. But he was very open to questions and friendly. Answered all of my questions well.

He is very down to earth and speaks on a level that you understand. I have had no bad experience with him up until this point. His office staff is wonderful, especially Cindy the Nurse. She is the one who gets the patients approved with their insurance. I ran into some problems with my approval process and she was very up front with me and gave me the tools to be successful. I can not think of anything that I didn't like about him up until this point. He requires all surgical candidates to attend at least two support group meetings that involve post surgical members. Aftercare is addressed completely during the first presurgical consultation with him. He is very up front about the restrications that this procedure puts on the patient and lets you know exactly what the risks are. The hospital also requires that you attend a seminar and nutritional consultation before you can be approved for surgery. I am very satisfied with my decision to use him for my surgery. The only negative thing that I have to say is that he is very blunt. That is not something that bothers me, I would rather him be honest and upfront than try to beat around the bush and confuse me. Overall, I would say that the whole experience with Dr. Wernsing and his staff has been a positive one. I think that his surgical conpetence, from what I have seen thus far, is better than his bedside manner.

Dr. Wernsing seemed really great!!

Wernsing had the self-confidence in a surgeon and the experience that I wanted. He was friendly, outgoing, and personable and non-critical of me. If you see him, you must come prepared with questions to ask. You will have a short visit if you are not vocal. I did a year of research and attended support group meetings before meeting with him, so I didn't have much to ask.

Office staff was nice.

Risks were addressed by saying that I'm morely likely to die from being obese than from the surgery. I already knew the death and complication statistics.

Aftercare is not his concern. That is left to the nutrition staff, a psychologist, and myself. Once he does the surgery, he's done other than follow-up appointments and if complications occur that need to be addressed surgically.

I really like Dr. Wernsing...lots of folks on this site comment on how young he looks, but...how long does that last before we get told we look too old? Over the years I have learned that looking young has no coorelation to surgical ability. He did a fine job and I feel great. I have to admit, I am a big pain in the ass to have as a patient because I have been a nurse for so long...but Dr. Wernsing and his staff were great. The nurses at Pennsylvania Hospital work very hard and I felt very safe the whole time. Although I did experience a minor lap site hernia, it was fixed quickly and I was back to work a week later. Dr. Wernsing always made me feel well informed. His staff always answered my questions thoroughly. That's the most important thing for me.

My about Dr Wernsing are that he was very informative. he is very nice and very confident in what he does. he has pay close attention to my open because of prior surgeries that I have. I really enjoyed his staff I thought they were very nice (Cindy). He is very strict about aftercare. On a scale of 1-10 I give a 10+++ PA Hospital has a really great aftercare program.
