Doctor Spencer is an incredible person, his being a surgeon is just icing on the cake. His intelligence is out of this world and I would have trusted noone else with my life as I have him. My first impression of him was great. He was friendly yet to the point. His staff is great. I had heard a lot about LCDR Archer, his charge nurse, but I haven't had a bit of problems with her. She's been nothing but wonderful to me. I feel Doctor Spencer is a perfectionist and a genius at what he does...he will tear you a new butthole if you're screwing up his creation (not taking your vitamins, meds). He has an aftercare program once a month, he attends every meeting and gives mass info. He is very up front with what this surgery will and will not do, he makes no promises that won't come to pass. From 1-10, I give Dr. Spencer a 20! The morning after surgery, Doctor Spencer came to my room and gave me a very warm hug and told me I looked great and there was more to come. He is very personable and extremely knowledgeable. I can't say a single bad thing about him.
I got to meet Dr. Spencer and his team on 3/22/01 for orientation. Dr. Spencer is a confident surgeon. He is direct in his answers and seemed to welcome my questions. I feel comfortable with his clinical skills.
At my individual appointment with Dr. Spencer on 4/2/01 I was completely impressed. He fielded all my questions, completely explained not only what he is going to do but also what he is not going to do and why. I have no doubts about his clinical capability. Probably one of the finest physicians I have had the opportunity to meet. If you are not committed to the total package, very thorough pre-op testing, and even more comprehensive aftercare you should probably reconsider your decision.
So far I have only met the Dr on one occasion and at that time he seemed a little worn out. He does seem to believe in this type of proceedure though, and in helping people get through it with the least amount of problems. He and his staff have developed a program that is very informative. The program informs pre-op and post-op equally but does emphasizes post-op as the most important. All of the staff has provided information on contacting them and has offered to be available when ever needed.
first impression nice guy, reminded me of my dad. My impression did change in a way but only for the better dr. Spencer was very upfront about everything and didn't sugarcoat anything he told it like it was. office staff at portsmouth naval was wonderful as well very cordial. actually there was nothing I could say bad about Dr. Spencer. I think patients should know that Dr. Spencer actually cares about his patients it doesn't seem to be "just a Job" to him, he even called me at my home to let me know of a schedule change most doctors would have a nurse do it this is probably when I realized I made the right choice by putting my life in his hands. he tells you all you need to know they make sure you have paperwork detailing everything and pager numbers if there is a problem you are unsure of, you also continue to see a nutritionist as well as follow-up appts as part of the program at portsmouth naval. yes, you have check-ups I think it's six times in the year following as well as seeing the nutritionist. Dr. Spencer is very up-front like I stated earlier and because I am young and want more children he took alot of time with me to make sure I knew what I was doing as well as things that can happen suring and after surgery. if this is only a scale of 1-10 he gets a 10!!! But in my book he will always bat 1000!!! Both are great, of all the care I have received while my husband has been in the navy for the past 8 years this was by far the best ever!!!
I have met with Dr. Spencer twice now and the next time will be for surgery. I liked him from the moment I met him. He is easy to talk to and more than willing to answer any questions. He shows great concern for my surgery success and making sure I know what I am getting into.
12/29/00 - I am now over 6 weeks post-op and can't say enough good things about Dr. Spencer and the other doctors who took care of me at Portsmouth Naval. Dr. Spencer is sincere in the reasons he does this type of surgery and dedicated to his patients. I am lucky to have had him do my surgery.
very good, he was very easy to talk too, and answered all my questions sraight up.
My first impressions of him did not change at all.
very helpful and supportive, especially his nurse Edna.
Was really worried about his location being at Naval Portsmouth.
Tell him anything and everything that is on your mind, he will listen and answer it all.
Always, he encourages everyone to do what they are supposed to be doing and to attend support group meetings.
Yes to some extent.
He lays everything on the table and then leaves it up to you whether you wish to proceed.
I liked him a lot, I was very comfortable arround him.
He excels in both.
I liked Dr. Spencer alot :) :). He is very sincere and straight to the point on the risk. My impression has not changed at all in fact it only grew stronger I really admire his caring for his patients! His office staff was very courteous and caring.
There was nothing to dislike about him. He is a very busy man. And you better have your ( for us gals) mammogram, pap, done if not you will have you will get a complete work up 1.pap 2.mammogram 3.chest x-ray 4. blood work & urine 5.ekg 6. health psychology 7.nutrition 8. support group meeting(very important). After you see Dr. Spencer for the first time. You will see his nurse and she will put in all the consults for you to complete proir to making the pick a date for surgery. On that day he will go over all your results with you and tell you if it a yes or no for surgery. If no the reason why or what needs to be done.
Very strong on aftercare. Yes there is.
He addressed the risk strong and straight to the point.
As far as I am concerned He is great!!!!!!!
I had another Dr. in S.C. he was a civillian and a jerk :(! It is very important to know as much as possible about your Dr.!!! Competency is the biggest factor!! Not only his(or hers) office manners but also his (or hers) bedside manners. All in All all factors are great!
My first impression of my surgeon was a commendable one. He seemed very knowledgeable and appeared to be trying to do me more good than harm. There is nothing I didn't like about him but I have only met him once. I hear alot of wonderful things about him which makes me feel comfortable. He seemed sympathetic to my needs. I felt as if I've known him for years. I was extremely comfortable in his presence. He emphasized greatly on the care you need for yourself after the surgery. He thoroughly tries to let you know what you are up against. He pulls no punches. I will have more to say about him after I meet him again and then of course, have the surgery. I want to like him also. Afterall, my life will be in his hands.
Well, my first impression proves right. He's an astounding man as well as Doctor. Dr. Spencer is extraordinary. One in a million he is. I don't just care about him because he performed this surgery and I've lost weight as a result. He is genuine and there's not a civilian or other military doctor that can top him.
He has impacted many lives. Dr. Spencer is a prodigy and I'm indebted!!!!!!!!!!!
