I have just received my referral from my PCP to visit with my surgeon. My first appointment with the surgeon is on September 6. I will update after I see him.
Sept.8, 2000 I saw my surgeon on sept. 6th. The ball is rolling now. He suggested that I have VGB,although that is not what I wanted at first, his arguments were strong, and I feel comfortable with that decision now. My surgery is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 29, if all goes well with the incurance. dr. Schumacher is very thorough, and goes into detail describing the procedure and all of the risks associated with it.
I have met with Dr. Quinlin who will be performing the conversion of my VBG to a gastri bypass. He is a very kind man and caring man. He asked me if I was aware of the risks and if I knew about the surgery. Of course having gone through it once already, I know pretty much what I am getting into.
I went and seen Dr Schumacher in the begining of Oct. I was impressed with his office staff, they were very friendly and easy going. They took time with me and I did not feel rushed at all, I was at ease the whole time.
Dr Schumacher is a nice guy, answered all my questions and explained everything in detail. He was honest when I asked him if he ever lost anyone, there has been one so far, he has done a little over 70 surgery's.
I was just approved for surgery on11/6 and will keep everyone posted from here on what I need to do from here.
There is a support group that meets once a month @ Aliquippa hosp.
I think that if I had to rate him so far it would be a 8 out of 10

My first impression of Dr. Schumacher was very positive. He was very open to answering my questions including those about his background and experience. I liked his honesty about the surgery and the possible side effects and the things I should expect. He seems very caring about his patients and he listened to my concerns and gave me straightforward information.
From my first visit thorough my surgical experience to after care visits my impression of him remained positive.
His office staff are helpful and have a positive attitude.
The thing I liked least about Dr. Schumacher is that he doesn't currently have an aftercare support group, which I think would be helpful. I also would like to have a group to go to with questions before surgery.
Future patients should be up front about their concerns and questions.
I think he doesn't emphasize aftercare enough.
He was very honest about the risks of surgery, and about the changes that would accompany recovery.
I would rate him a 9 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being highest.
I think he did well in both surgical skills and bedside manner, with bedside manner rating above surgical skill.
