DR AMSON IS OK, I LIKE HIM AND TRUST HIM, I HAD A COUPLE OF SURGERIES SO FAR. THE FIRST ONE WAS A PIECE OF HARD FAT THAT WAS IN MY SIDE, I WAS AWAKE FOR THE SURGERY, WENT HOME A FEW HOURS LATER EVERYTHING WAS OK. THEN, I HAD TO HAVE MY GALLBLADDER OUT, WELL THEY PUT ME OUT FOR THAT ONE,I WAS READY TO GO HOME IN A FEW HOURS, I DIDN'T KNOW IT BUT DR AMSON HAD BOOKED ME A ROOM FOR THE NITE, I DIDN'T STAY, I'M LUCKY I HEAL FAST, BESIDES THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE.HIS OFFICE STAFF ARE PRETTY GOOD, ITS PRETTY HECTIC THERE BUT THEY ARE NICEI THINK HE IS PRETTY HEAVY ON AFTERCARE, THE PATIENTS SEEM TO SEE MORE OF HIM AFTERWARDS, THERE ARE PICTURES OF HIM WITH EVERYONE, HE REMAINS VERY CLOSE TO EVERYONE, HE CAN TELL ME WHERE TO LOOK ON HIS WEBSITE TO SEE HOW EACH ONE IS DOING AND HE WILL WRITE DOWN A FEW PHONE #AND TELL ME TO CALL THEN IF I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE SURGERY.I JUST THINK HE IS A SUPER GUY.rnNEGATIVE? well he can be kind of abrupt, but lets face it, he is a very busy man, once he is sure you are not wasting his time, he is all yours.he is also the father of 7 young girls.

Dr. Amson is a very tall man, which could be imposing except he so gentle and rather soft spoken. I see him every three months or so, and I am continually amazed at how he seems to remember everything I ever said to him, so I never need to repeat myself. He is very caring, and emphasizes the need for support and provides it in three ways. Not only is there a local monthly meeting, but he will give you the numbers of patients he feels have particularly things in common with you, AND his office is often the site of impromptu groups. After he sees a group of patients, he will collect them all in the same room and ask them to share with each others. New patients, fear not this last method. Dr. Amson is very sensitive and if you are shy, he is not going to push you. He is simply very conscientious, and here in BC where we have government health care, that is extremely refreshing! (If you want to imagine what government health care is like, imagine you are in a giant, badly managed HMO in the states. I know, because I used to live there and was a paramedic in Oregon before moving here.)
The staff at the office are frenetically busy, but they too are friendly and as helpful as they can be, but they do not hesitate to ask everyone not to call the office to ask questions. I guess this is understandable, because they each are doing the work of about three, with all these patients and only one WLS doctor in the whole area. We who live here must remember that political outcry to get more surgeons and be allowed more OR time in the hospital can never be let up.

What a caring individual. I have seen him twice so far and asked many questions (I like to be prepared).
Office staff very nice and extremely busy.
Tends to run late due to so many appointments and does surgery for both bariatric and other surgeries.

My first impression of Dr.Amson was he is a verry bussy doctor, the doctor was called into surgery. I waited to see him for over 3 hours, worried if I was going to see him or not considering I have bin on a bus from kelowna for 7 hr and had to go back the same day for another 7 hr bus ride. Dr.Amson was great I have never bin so understood before, usually doctors are fast and all ready have their own opinion about you when they see you.He made me feal like I matterd and was very saportive.

The staff is very understanding. The one lady has a great sense of humor, when she was calling people to come in she would say
"so and so come on down" and would make the wait so much easier, she was allways there to help and give advice, made you feel welcome.

The hole visit was informative and comfortable.
The only bad thing was my but didnt fit their seats..go figure, big people go there you think they would have bigger seats or seats that have no arm rests. But you could turn that around and think about how nice it will be to sit in there after your surgery. : )

Dr Amson is highly personable. He is enthusiastic in his work and thorough in his explanations. He takes time to meet with the obesity support groups that he recommends we attend. He is upfront about all the aspects- the good , the bad, the dangerous. I feel confident under his care.

Like many doctors he has a tendancy to run behind schedule. Just be sure to confirm times on the day of the appointment and take a good long book! Keep in mind that Dr Amson preforms general surgery and specializes with cancer surgery and bariatrics. Busy, busy practise.

Dr Amson has an amazing office staff who co-ordinates his 125+ wating list with precision. These girls seem to be familiar with us all and deal with a constant bourage of calls. They also get us through all those pre-op hoops; nutritionalist, endocrinologist, sleep oximentry.

Patience is the key. We did not become obese overnight! It is worth the wait.

His name is Dr.Amson in Victoria BC Canada
he is a a sweet caring man who was easy to talk to and very understanding and warm. I am very comfortable with him and feel positive about having him as my surgeon. His staff was wonderful I got real talkative to one of the secretaries there she was very sweet and warm as well.
he is very thourough all you need to do is go in fully prepared with your questions and I am sure he will have your answers.

Dr.Amson in November 2002 was quick and efficient in ridding me of my gallbladder. I saw Dr.Amson Sometime around oct-nov 2002 I think. I discussed the pain i was having with my gallbladder and he assured me he would get me in ASAP. I was in and out of hospital a couple of months at least and I got a date of Nov 15th for my date. I ended up having a severe attack and saw him in his office I believe Nov 7th and he said to come into the hospital that weekend as he would be on call. I ended up having really bad pain that night and went to hospital. He had me admitted as he was in hospital that night and I had surgery the morning of Nov 9th. He was attentive and kind and even saved some stones at my request. It turned out 3 stones were blocking the duct. I seriously would tell anyone if you want a surgeon who truly cares for his patients he is the best. I think he goes above and beyond what any other surgeon or dr would do.
He keeps following up on me every few months I see him and he is always very supportive and a wonderful ear to listen. I am honest with him in my shortcomings and he is wonderful in making me I am still doing well and that we all have our moments.
I cannot speak highly enough of him. Truly he is a saint.

His secretaries are all wonderful and caring as well. I know they get many calls and somehow Val one of the main secretaries that works for him keeps track of who is who and what is going on with us all. She truly seems to also care for how Dr.Amson's patients do. I know it is frustrating for the wait and there are many waiting and she gets calls all day long of when when when somehow she keeps it together and she does truly care for the people who come in. Dr.Amson has assembled a wonderful team.

Dr Amson is a very busy man. My initial consult with him in February 2002 went by in a blur. However I continue to hear awesome things about him from other patients (pre and post op) and am confident he is the surgeon for me.

His staff is very busy as well. They were friendly even so.
