I went to my first support group meeting with a friend in November, 2004, where Dr. Greene presented the program. I thought he was very thorough and honest with his answers to all questions. Since that meeting,I have become a patient of his and had by gastric bypass performed by him.
He is very competent, very concerned with patient care and health. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is willing to follow Dr's orders.
In the office, Julia and Shelly are most helpful and will answer any questions also.
Dr. Greene has a wonderful pre and post op support foundation with meetings twice a month.
Dr. Greene has rules one must follow in order to accomplish their goal of bypass surgery. These include lots of pre testing,
dieting before surgery etc. I was fortunate to have my surgery 5 days earlier than thought because Dr. Greene did cancel a patient who had not followed his instructions and I got their spot!
Dr. Greene is very to the point, but very detailed. Has a good pre op program. Office staff has been good to deal with and very responsive to my calls. He's made some changes to the program and this may have made things better as far as staff and patient interactions. I'm currently scheduled, so I'll note on the post op care when I'm on the other side.
Dr. Greene is a great surgeon and I recommend him to anyone I can. He of course is very busy and remains that way. I feel he is very thorough and the followup is very good. The office staff is caring but at times overloaded because so many people are waiting to get the surgery with Dr. Greene. I can't think of anyting I don't like about Dr. Greene, except maybe that he is so busy, but that is understandable. Dr. Greene's aftercare is very good, as well and aftercare is very important to him, including bloodwork, etc. Dr. Greene does address the risks of surgery, and even gives a "quiz" to make sure his patients understand the risks. I would give Dr. Greene a 9 on a scale of 1 - 10. I think his surgical competence is his strong point. He is a very good doctor and has a good reputation. Thank you.
I'm a skeptic. So, my first meet with Dr. Greene was riddled with pre-judgements. However, anyone would be better than the first surgeon I'd met with nearly 2 years prior, who read details of the procedure to me off pre-printed note cards and I sat in his office visualizing his notes -enlarged, and projected on the wall during surgery -scary. It was after that experience that I took ten big steps BACK from the notion of WLS.
Then I relocated, and re-researched. This led to Dr. Greene. At first, and actually even now, I think he looks at his watch too much. ;-) But, I suppose that's a surgeon for ya. I like him because he is the kind of person you listen to. He has that presence about him, a certain reasonability that I completely trust. His office staff has never failed me - not once. Anytime I've called or emailed them for anything, they've responded immediately and professionally. I feel like Greene's whole program is a well oiled machine, but not to the extent that I feel like just another number or whatever.
As far as rating Greene..well so far so good. I'll lay down a 1 to 10 number AFTER I have the surgery ;-). I will say this, for me, Barry Greene was a fit; however, I do believe a choice like this is very much a personal decision. Anyone should take their time, research their doc, and above all go with someone you are totally comfortable with! I feel fortunate that I found that on the 2nd try.
Dr Barry Greene is heaven sent, My PCP actually recommended him. He has performed a lot of surgeries and of course very well informed and most of all caring and understanding. He was very pleasant and if possible, he does recommend other ways to achieve ur weight loss without surgery.
Dr Greene's office staff are very well trained and they are efficient.
Dr Greene is not slack concerning proper care and nutrition. He does stress the importance of a lifestyle change in order to achieve the desired weight loss.
I would recommend Dr Greene to anyone thinking about undergoing this surgery.
First, saw Dr. Greene at a patient briefing on bariatric surgery. He is a middle aged surgeon, with a professional manner and gave a good overview of the types of bariatric surgeries and the pro and cons to each procedure. He does both the gastric bypass and lap band procedures and has done over 500 bariatric surgeries.
Having been briefed by two other bariatric surgeons in my area, I was impressed by his experience and the number of people (30+) that came to hear the briefing.
While he was further from me geographically than the other bariatric surgeons I reviewed, I decided that he was the doctor for me.
Upon, my first visit with Dr. Greene, he recognized me (though i didn't recognize him at first). Apparently we had worked at the same Medical Center over 12 years ago in a different state. Since I was about 130 pounds lighter then, I was amazed he remembered me! On the other hand, he looked just the same as he did 12 years ago except for some grey hairs.
Dr. Greene and his office was and is very organized. He and his staff care about the saftey and the well being of all his patients. The first person that I contacted about my surgery was Dr. Marcus, who helped train Dr. Greene. He(Dr, Marcus)then directed me to Dr. Greene. Once I contacted his office, I was given thier web-site that prepared me for the process that would be nessesary for me
