Dr. Alanis seems very knowledgeable and has a good sense of humor. I just felt a little rushed during the consult because he was late from surgery and there was a big backlog of patients. His other post-op patients in the waiting room all seemed to be very happy with him.

I felt very comfortable with Dr. Alanis. He was very friendly and informative. I was the last consult and it was getting late, so I didn't get to spend as much time talking to him as I wanted, however, I have been so thorough in my research and asking questions (I call Neweigh often) until I felt satisfied with the consult. He did stress all the risks involved and drew a diagram of the surgery. Aftercare is a must and I had to sign a statement agreeing to participate in the after care program. I believe I'm in good hands.

I am more in love with Dr. Alanis than when I first met him. He is a very competent surgeon who is compassionate and God fearing. He is very caring and takes time to listen to me. I ended up in the emergency room a week after I was released from the hospital because I thought my stitches were coming apart. He came to see about me personally and took good care of me. He is a great supporter and doesn't make me feel bad that I needed to have surgery to lose weight. He is the best. I highly recommend him. He also does very neat work and leaves you with a minimal scar that heals beautifully.

I met Dr. Alanis 3-5-02, and thought he was wonderful. He was very nice, and carefully explained and drew diagrams of the surgery. Of course I already knew most of what he told me, but also was very good at answering the questions that I had. I thought the office staff at Neweigh was great. The receptionist isn't all that outgoing, but Leigh was great. Neweigh really stresses aftercare, and has a structured aftercare program and they make you sign an agreement that you will attend so many meetings after surgery.

Update: 4-1-02 I am very frustrated with Neweigh because of the time that it's taking for them to send my paperwork to insurance. They've had all of my information for almost 2 weeks, and still have not sent it in. And I've been bugging them a couple times a week and it doesn't seem to do any good. I would rate Dr. Alanis a 8 out of 10 and Neweigh with a 6 out of 10 (if they send my insurance information in this week!).

I was very impressed with Dr. Alanis. He was very kind and had a wonderfull sence of humor. He explained in detail the surgery and any risks and complications that could accur. I felt very comfortable and look foward to the surgery. The staff at Nuweigh were all kind and very helpful. Alos patient as I called almost every day during the 3 weeks waiting for an approval. He emphasized the importance of aftercare and I had to sighn a contract that I would attend.

Dr. Alanis is a very professional Dr. that explains the surgery and side effects with great detail. I was impressed with his demeanor both before and after surgery.

Dr. Alanis contracts through Neweigh in Houston, Texas. The "Little Sisters" at Neweigh are extremely help, when you can get in touch with them.

Dr. Alanis stresses aftercare and ensures that you can get in touch with him post-op issues as needed.

I would give Dr. Alanis a 9 on a scale of 10. I have to say that Dr. Alanis is not lacking in either bed side manner or surgical competence.

I did have a few complications directly after surgery. I ended up being allergic to all of the protein drinks and ended up substituting with yogurt. I feel that my post surgical pain lasted longer than I expected, but I was still able to go back to work after a 3 week period.

If you are considering this surgery, I suggest that you take off work 2 weeks and go back 1/2 days if possible.

My overall story has been a success!! Best of Luck

Oh - I guess you want statistics.
Pre-surgery 5' 7' 267 lbs
Surgery Date - January 21, 2002
2 week post-op statistics 246 lbs and still loosing.

My first impression of Dr. Alanis was a good one. He treated me like a person, looked me in the eye, drew diagrams and explained what I would need to know and what he wanted to do surgery-wise. I've only had one meeting with him. My next meeting is next week, so I really feel this is premature to fill out. I found him attentive and thoughtful and he answered my questions. He did mention risks and I noticed he was respectful of the employees. I feel I need to have another meeting or two before I can make any other comments.

I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH DR. ALANIS IN THE MANNER IN WHICH HE CAREFULLY EXPLAINED THE COMPLETE PROCEDURE WITH ME AND MY HUSBAND.
OFFICE STAFF AT FIRST SEEMED SORT OF NONCHALANT. I CAN APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT SOME OF THE STAFF AT NEWEIGH ARE WLS POST OPS. THEY KIND OF WARMED UP AS THE VISIT WENT ON. I LIKED THE WAITING THE LEAST.
HE IS VERY DIRECT AND DOES EMPHASIZE AFTER CARE. HE DID SEEM VERY COMPETENT AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. THEY DO HAVE A STRUCTURED AFTERCARE PROGRAM. THE RISKS OF SURGERY WERE ADDRESSED, BUT NOT OVERLY EMPHASIZED. OVERALL, I WOULD RATE DR. ALANIS ON A SCALE OF 1-10 A HIGH 8.
