My first impression was that he was just another doctor who was too busy. Since more visits, he has become very supportive in my venture. His staff is wonderful. I am still in the aftercare program so I don't have any info yet. The risks were very detailed to me without any pampering. He made sure that I understood completely. I think the surgical competence is more important than bedside manner because I can die from incompetence, but not hurt feelings.
I was very pleased with my initial visit. The staff was friendly and made me feel at "home" They were awesome about making sure all my questions were answered and I thought they were very thorough in going through my medical history.
Aftercare is required and they expect compliance. He basically gave the text book version of the risks involved.
I haven't had my surgery yet so my opinion will be developing but so far so good.
What was your first impression of him/her? I liked Dr. Smith from the first time I met him at his monthly seminar. He has had the lap-band himself and is very much an advocate for the surgery.
How did your impression change over time?
It has only gotten better. He has left a group practice at UNTHSC, and is out on his own. I called one day and he even answered the phone. They were working short that day and even Dr. Smith pitched in to help.
How would you describe his/her office staff?
The staff at UNTHSC were short and sometimes just rude. His new staff is awesome, very helpful, friendly and don't mind answering your questions. I feel much more comfortable with them.
What did you like least about him/her?
I had least liked the staff he was with an UNTHSC. But that problem resolved itself.
How would you rate him/her overall?10/10!!!
Which is better, surgical competence, bedside
manner, or both great?
Both are great!!
What was your first impression of him/her?
I WAS IMPRESSED AT DR. SMITH'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROCEDURE. HE AND HIS WIFE HAVE BOTH BEEN BANDED.
How did your impression change over time?
IT ONLY IMPROVED.
How would you describe his/her office staff?
THE OFFICE STAFF WAS GREAT.
What did you like least about him/her?
What should future patients know about him/her?
ASK QUESTIONS, BE PROACTIVE ABOUT YOUR HEALTHCARE.
How much does he/she emphasize aftercare?
VERY, VERY MUCH. THE SUPPORT GROUP MEETS TWICE A MONTH. THERE ARE GREAT GUESTS SPEAKERS--THEY HAVE INCLUDED AN IMAGE CONSULTANT, A HEALTH AND FITNESS TRAINER OUT OF KELLER, THE OWNER OF THE NEW CURVES IN FORT WORTH, A PSYCHOLOGIST, AND OTHERS!
WE RECENTLY HAD OUR FIRST CLOTHING EXCHANGE. IT WAS A BIG SUCCESS.
Does he/she have a structured aftercare program?
SEE ANSWER ABOVE.
How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
HONESTLY AND FRANK. IT IS MAJOR SURGERY.
How would you rate him/her overall?
10 OUT OF 10.
Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or both great?
BOTH ARE GREAT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. ADAM SMITH IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS
I haven't made the consult appt yet. But, since I live in Fort Worth and he is in Fort Worth, I will start with him (or them). I have read some of the other profiles of Dr. Smith's patients and he seems to be generally held in high regard ... at least no one has posted that they have passed away due to their surgery with him.
My first inpression was a great one he is a wonderful doctor. I was really impressed that he had the surgery him self along with his spouse, which made me feel comfortable with this type of procedure.
Over time I still feel the same.
The office staff could use a lot of help. I think they need to find someone to come in and organize the whole office.
Nothing
Dr. Smith is a great doctor.
He emphasizes a great deal on aftercare.
Yes there is an after program
Yes he goes over the whole procedure with you and lets you know the good and bad.
I would rate him very high.
Both are wonderful.
I had Lap RNY on Dec. 26, 2003. Dr. Smith created a slot for me so I could have the surgery prior to the end of the year because of my insurance. He personally called the insurance company to get them off dead center.
He and Dr. German Berbel are partners and have a tremendous staff. Their follow-up care is excellent. I am seven weeks postop and have been do his office 3 times for followup appointments.
They have monthly seminars to discuss both lap band and lap RNY.
I had my surgery on Friday. He came by the hospital on Saturday to check on me, and also Monday morning.
I would highly recommend him to anyone.
