Had first initial visit with Dr. Wheeler and his staff on Wed. Dec. 21 at KDMC> Dr. Wheeler and his staff were just wonderful. I felt as if I were with family.

My first impression of Dr.Tompkins was that he was professional, yet laid back at the same time. Even at the seminar his presentation was the key factor as to why I chose him. The other doctor just seemed so unprofessional, uptight, and just uninteresting. Even in my consultation apt. He was very informative and made sure I knew what I was getting myself into, and made sure that all my questions were answered. He seemed very supportive, and assuring. =D I'm glad I picked this doctor.

I am a nurse practitioner in the town next to Dr. Tompkins office. I worked in ICU for years and interacted with Dr. Tompkins. This was before the bariatric program began in Ashland. He is a very capable, caring surgeon, with excellent people skills. Both of the surgeons in this practice are excellent surgeons and this is a fantastic program. All the staff here have given me excellent preop info. and I'm glad I choose them for this surgery.

I met Dr. Wheeler at an seminar I went to in Ashland Ky. He knew his stuff, was such a good speaker, and He stayed until everyone in the room got their questions anwsered. He talked about all of the risk, and said it wasn't for everyone, and for us all to research and really think about it ,because it was going to change our lives and our family's. He has the best staff! I really like them all, especially Tonia, she is so fun! When I first met him, I knew he was MY doctor!

My first impression of Dr. Tompkins was that he was a very straight to the point, down to earth kinda of guy. His office staff have been professional, kind and extremely helpful and knowledgable. Everyone I've come into contact has stressed the importance of aftercare, following the instructions given in the seminars and consultations to the letter. I was advised several times about what can happen, what to expect and complications that could arise. I received this information not only from Dr. Tompkins, but his whole office staff. The knowledge they have about the whole process shows their dedication to helping the patient receive the best care, and with the information given, allows their patients to be 100% successful at the direction they have chosen. I have at this time attended two different seminars. Both Dr. Tompkins and Dr. Wheeler are very straight to the point, giving you all the facts on both surgeries (Lapband and RNY) up front.rnrnBoth can come across as slightly blunt/rude. In all honesty, they are just being straightfoward and completely honest with the whole process of the WLS. This process is a TOOL, not the miracle that everyone may expect. I basically feel that both doctors prepare their patients by constantly stressing the risks, the benefits, possible complications, and the importance of aftercare and following the program structure to the full letter.

i was very impressed by Dr. Wheeler. I am an RN and wanted a lot of information up front. He had nothing to hide. The staff was very supportive, most of them had been through the surgery. They have many support groups and I have made many calls to the office about questions and have always been treated nicely. He is an A+ in my book. He also operated on my mother and a friend of the family. They both received wonderful after care. Better care than I have ever heard of from other local hospitals. I think surgical competence is most important, but he has both.
