I had to switch surgeons because Dr. O'Rourke doesn't do laproscopic anymore. Now I have Dr. Fisher. I met with him today.
1st impression:He's very TALL! He answered every question with ease and great detail. We talked about the "bad things" first. What could go wrong and why. He was very good at addressing each of my questions even if they were odd. He spent over 40 mins with me! He would have spent more if I needed it and had more questions. I liked that!
He could use a little more personality. I did get him to laugh a couple times but he's very serious.
I'll write more after I've had the surgery. Hard to get it all after only one visit.
Dr. Fedorak is incredible! He spent over 2 1/2 hours with me during my consultation to make sure that he was able to get to know me a bit and answer any questions I had. It was refreshing to visit with a doctor who wasn't keeping an eye on the clock.
The office staff was very nice - even though I harrassed Barb!!!
I'm very impressed with the gastric bypass program at Colorado Springs Surgical Assoc. -they require a lifetime committment, not just a few months pre-op. You pay a nominal fee up front and have lifetime access to a psychologist, nutritionist and exercise counselor.
It was well worth the drive from Denver!
The only beef I really had was the lack of communication from the office - they're REALLY busy and poor Barb just simply doesn't have enough time to return calls if you have a small question or request an update. However, when pivitol information came through (i.e. approval and surgery date) she called immediately.
On Tuesday, January 15th, 2002, my husband and I went and met with Dr. Fisher. He seemed pretty young to me. I don’t have problem with that, because I think you are supposed to continue to be monitored for the rest of your life. I think I would prefer a young doctor, so that he won’t so quickly outgrow me. I am not sure if I said that right. Basically, I would like the same doctor for the long haul and not change too often. He answered lots of questions. He seems knowledgeable and very nice. I was interested in having this surgery the prior summer, however, the office is so busy with WLS patients that I had to wait to even call for an appointment. The staff seems receptive so far. I'll add more as I go further into this process.
I have only met with Dr. Fedorak once, for my initial consultation. He was very pleasant, immediately made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. He was very helpful with all my questions, whatever reservations I had about the surgery, he definately put me at ease. The office staff also was very nice, Barb was the lady I have dealt with. She was very efficient on the insurance approval, It only took 1 week and 3 days to get approval after my initial consultation. Now I am waiting for my appointments with the nutritionist and my gallbladder ultrasound, then hopefully we can set the date.
My first impression of Dr. Fisher was good. He is a very nice man and also very patient. My husband had many concerns regarding this procedure. He also had many questions that I did not have the answers to. Dr. Fisher answered all of his and my questions. I am so excited to be getting the surgery done and I am very happy that Dr. Fisher is my doctor!! The aftercare program is unbelievable. I have heard of programs that were for 1 weekend day and then you are on your own. The aftercare program Dr. Fisher's office has set up includes meetings with a nutritionalist for the first year after surgery, along w/ up to 12 visits to their gym. I will be meeting with the nutritionalist about 8-9 times in the year after surgery. That is amazing to me. At this moment - I personally have not had any bad experiences with anyone at this office. My surgery date is about 5 weeks away - I will keep you all posted.
My first impression of Dr. Fisher is that he is young! But a very nice and knowledgable man. I really had to listen to him carefully because he is a fast talker! He carefully and thoroughly explained the procedure, risks, benefits and possible complications. This Dr. requires his patients to go through nutirtional and psychlogical testing before the surgery. So now I am just waiting for insurance approval and I have been told that can take a week or two.
