HE IS VERY WELL MANNERED AND HONEST. HE
SEEMS EXCITED FOR HIS PATIENTS. HE REMAINED THE SAME, HE IS VERY NICE AND I WISH HE DID THE PLASTIC SURGERY.THE PEOPLE IN THE OFFICE ARE JUST AS HELPFUL AND FREINDLY.THER IS REALLY NOTHING I COULD NOR WOULD SAY NEGATIVE ABOUT ANYONE IN THE OFFICE OR HOSPITAL.HE IS TO ME ONE OF THE BEST DOCTORS THAT I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH.HE EMPHASIZES NO BETWEEN MEALS AND NO DRINKING 30 MINUTES BEFORE NOR AFTER.THEY HAVE SUPPORT GROUPS AND HE HAS OFFERED TO HELP FORM A SUPPORT GROUP IN MY HOME TOWN.HE WENT THROUGH ALL THE PROS AND CONS ABOUT THIS SURGERY AND ANY SURGERY. I WOULD RATE HIM IN THE HIGHEST RANGE. HE IS JUST THIS GREAT TO ME.
HE IS AS A WHOLE A GREAT PERSON TO HAVE AS A DOCTOR.
First visit was 11/13/02. Dr. Rowitz and his staff made me feel very comfortable. He is very knowledgeable and explained everything in terms that I could understand. He took all the time needed to address my questions and concerns. I never felt rushed. He seems very caring and concerned that you know what to expect through each step. I would recommend him to anyone.
The only negative I had was the long wait for an initial appointment and surgery date. He has such a back log of WLS patient's that it takes a while.
my first impression of doc was wow he sure is a big guy his back will hurt after doing surg on me ha ha.the staff was wonderful i kept calling back to see if anyone had cancelled an appt.i got lucky and got in sooner.he is very stern on aftercare and quit smoking beforehand.ann his nurse went over all risks as also did doc.so far i rate a 10 I have heard wonderful things about him very excited
Dr. Oliphant is a wonderful individual and surgeon! I felt safe in his care at every step of the way. He has an assistant named Ann who is wonderful. She is encouraging, but also very honest about what to expect. There is a structured aftercare and a support group run under Dr. Oliphant. Unfortunately, I moved before being able to utilize these services, but I have heard they are wonderful. If I were to have any suggestions, it would be to have some access to a system of referring people to an appropriate aftercare specialist if people move as I did.
I can't begin to tell you how wonderful he is, and the staff.....
When I first met Dr. Rowitz I had a sence of true trust in him... He is a straight shooter, no nonsence kinda guy that takes what he does very seriously. BUT thats because he has true compassion for his patients. He doesn't just heard them in, and out like cattle, but he truly listens to your what's, why's and wherefore's. All your concerns and does his best to answer your every question with true honesty, and beleive me I had several.
As for the staff, I delt mostly with a wonderful nurse names Christy. She took care of everything, and I mean everything. She handled the appointments, insurance... etc.
Just a quick story on the care I receive post surgery. I was talking to Christy about an insurance matter. As we spoke she asked me how I was doing, and I said that I would kill to eat something, ( you know the head hunger thing). Well un be known to me Dr. Rowitz was standing right next to her and told her that he emmediatly wanted to talk to me! Just to let me know that he would yell if I were to eat solids. I wasn't going to anyways, just made the comment, but boy he let me know that I made a difference in my recovery and that he was there anytime.
I would suggest Dr. Rowitz to any one in the Carolina's and further if they wanted to travel. He made me know and feel that I could not only do this but had total sypport through the WHOLE process.
Thanks Dr. Rowitz for evrything!
Dr. Oliphant is a wonderful, cheerful person. He always has a smile on his face, and he is very courteous. I had the surgery September 3, 2002. He did an excellent job, and I am very pleased with his attitude. He has been encouraging from the beginning, and continues to be. His staff is very kind, courteous, and always eager to help when needed. I have nothing negative to say about my experience with Dr. Oliphant. He emphasizes aftercare with extreme concern. He cares about each of his patients, and wants to see us all succeed in this battle. His aftercare program is very structured, and you are expected to follow his instructions. They are crutial to your success. He stresses this very strongly. I was fully informed of the risks of this surgery. As with any surgery, there are always risks. This is a major operation, and should be taken very seriously. I would have to rate Dr. Oliphant on a scale of 1-10, with a 10+. He is wonderful, and he is an excellent surgeon. My scar looks great! I would say that both surgical sompetence, and bedside manner are both at the top of the line. I can't say enough about him. He really does care about all of his patients, and their success.
I had my consultation with Dr. Rowitz October9th and I had already been denied twice before I went to him. I had started off with ANOTHER surgeon who was very nice but his secretery was no help at all, had no patience with me and didn't answer any questions and furthermore, just didn't want to be bothered at all! Also, I had done ALL the work trying to get myself approved! I didn't really think I would ever get approved, but I took a chance and went to see Dr. Rowitz anyway. Boy, am I glad I did.I went to the consultation, Dr. Rowitz and his nurse, Judy took a lot of time with me and talked to me and my husband and answered all of our questions and explained all of the risks and everything about the surgery. They are both so nice, I just love them! Any time I ever call to the clinic and need to talk to Judy or to ask a question, she always calls me back as soon as she can and she is so helpful. She never makes me feel like I am a bother at all! They gave me hope and encouragement and I don't know how they did it, BUT, THEY GOT ME APPROVED! I am so thankful to them and would reccomend them to anyone.
I was a little nervous at first. The nurse took me back to the office and asked a few general guestions, got my weight (I am glad to report I lost 10 pounds since last weigh in). We watched a 15 min video on the risk of bariatric surgery. The surgeon then came in and went over the risks again and reviewed my medical history. He then left the rest of the time for me to ask all the questions I needed.I didnt have too many since I have spent a lot of time doing research prior to even making an appt to see him. He was very patient, polite overall very nice man (and a trauma specialist as well). Currently he only performs open RNY's but will start LAP RNY's in Jan. 2003. Although I meet the overall heath criteria and BMI is below required 50. He advised I would not be a good canidate since I have had previous stomach surgery (open appendix surgery). He said its too much scar tissure, but he would think about it. I do trust his initial opinion and if I decide to have the surgery will go for the open proceedure because I trust him. Generally I would pick a surgeon will a good beside manner over qualifications but with Dr. Oliphant I have BOTH. I would reccomend him to anyone. He is very open, blunt, honest and have the patients best interest at heart.
Dr. Rowitz was very open and easy to talk to. I had my three year old with me, and he was very sweet with him, too.
It was very easy to talk to him. He answered all of my questions and was very open about all the negatives and positives of the surgery. I was even able to pick my own surgery date that day. I had an approval in 6 days from my initial consult!!
I definitely recommend him to anyone!!
I think that Dr. Rowitz is one of the best doctors that I have ever been to. Ever time I met him before surgery he was more than happy to answer any questions that I had. He discussed all the complications, and what were the posibilites of them. I found that his beside manner is even better than his pre-op manner. I would fully refer him to anyone thinking about having ANY type of surgery, especially this one.
