Dr. Robin Blackstone, Bariatric Surgeon Robin Blackstone, MD, FACS, FASMBS is the former Director of the Banner -University Medicine Obesity and Bariatric Surgery Center in Phoenix, Arizona. As a leading expert and pioneer in the field of bariatrics, Dr. Blackstone has the distinct honor of having been the first woman President of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) serving from 2011-2012. During her time as President of the ASMBS, she helped to establish the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) which sets the national standard for bariatric surgery centers. Dr. Blackstone is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM). She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS). She is a member of Society of the American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery (SAGES), the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT), the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), and the American Medical Association (AMA). Dr. Blackstone earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School and completed her internship and residency at the University of Colorado in Denver. She is a dedicated researcher and has authored numerous textbooks, articles, and abstracts on the topics of obesity, obesity-related diseases, and bariatric surgery.
