Dr. Gilberto Ungson, Bariatric Surgeon Gilberto Ungson, MD is the lead bariatric surgeon at the Mexicali Bariatric Center in Mexicali, Mexico. He is an internationally renowned surgeon with a specialty focus in complex bariatric surgery revisions and Duodenal Switch surgeries. He is also a pioneer in the field of minimally invasive surgery performing the first laparoscopic surgical procedures for diseases of the digestive system and abdominal wall in Sonora, Mexico. He earned his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma De Guadalajara, completed his residency at IMSS in Guadalajara Jalisco, and a fellowship in Endoscopy of the Superior Digestive Tract at the Instituto Nacional de Cancerología (INCAN). He is fellowship trained in Advanced Laparoscopy, training all over the world with many distinguished professors. Dr. Ungson is a Professor of Bariatric and Laparoscopic Surgery and Head of the Department of Health for the state of Sonora, Mexico. He is also the Director of Obesity Surgery and Diabetes Clinic and oversees the surgical staff at CIMA Hermosillo Hospital, Sonora, Mexico. He has the distinct honor of having previously served as the president of the Mexican College of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery. Dr. Ungson is a member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO), the Mexican College of Surgeons, and the Mexican Association of Endoscopic Surgery.
